A Letter to the Editor

Golden Gardens Assisted Living in Parsonsburg, Maryland
2564, 7888 Parsonsburg Rd, Parsonsburg, MD 21849

At approximately 4:20 AM on June 8th, 2018, Parsonsburg fire department and the county paid paramedic in Pittsville was dispatched for an emergency ambulance call at Golden Gardens Assisted Living. EMS 7 responded with the ALS provider to Parsonsburgs fire station to pick up the ambulance and meet with an EMT. In real counties with paid paramedics, the Chase with the paramedic responds with the paramedic to the scene of the emergency.

Central went through the 4 required re-alerts with no response. Then, Central dispatched Pittsville Volunteer Fire Company for the EMS call and then alerted the Parsonsburg volunteers for an engine response to standing by for Pittsville's' ambulance when they got out.

Wicomico Central Dispatched the required 4 re-alert attempts for Pittsville's Ambulance and ALS Paramedic and there was no response from Pittsville OR Parsonsburg again.

Then Wicomico Central dispatched Station 8 Willards EMS and the county paid ALS provider from Powellville, that's right Powellville Volunteer Fire Company. EMS 11 answered up responding to Willards for their ambulance. 818, a volunteer officer answered up and said the call was covered because Powellville EMS 11 was responding to Willards to pick of the ambulance stationed at the Willards Fire Company. In reality, it would have been much quicker for EMS 11 from Powellville to respond to Parsonsburg Road to tend to the patient instead of driving in the opposite direction to Willards.

At approximately 4:55 AM EMS 7 answers on the radio and says they have a crew and they cancel Willard's ambulance. EMS 11 answered up and returned to Powellville to go back to sleep. A few minutes later Parsonsburg's Ambulance finally got out and responded to that poor person's emergency who was waiting and suffering for well over 1/2 hour.

The irony to this story is that Parsonsburg and Pittsville Volunteer Fire Companies that the main people telling Bob Culver and the County Council that they don't support the Station 1 volunteers running mutual aid calls with them. The sad thing is that the Parsonsburg Fire Company scratched on that call and never responded a volunteer fire crew to stand by for that Ambulance crew and Pittsville volunteers didn't get out either. They both could have used the manpower from the volunteers from Station 1. These elected officials and volunteer firemen are playing dangerous politics with this entire situation. How many people have to die before Bob Culver and John Cannon get it right!

In real counties with paid paramedics and fire companies, the Chase with the paramedic responds with the paramedic to the scene of the emergency. If you don't believe me check with Sussex County, Dorchester County, Caroline County, Talbot County, Queen Anne County, Kent County and Cecil County!

You think the leadership was bad under Steve White at Parsonsburg, it is much worse under Eric Tyler. Why won't someone run against him?

Golden Gardens. That's just off the Antelope Freeway, isn't it?

The Delmar Fire Department is now being re-alerted for Fire and EMS for an MVC with injuries Bi-state Blvd and Chestnut Street, 2 vehicles, one patient.

It's not just Parsonsburg, it's all the volunteer fire stations in Wicomico County, but Bob Culver is doing nothing but letting them be in charge of their own failures while the citizens are being placed in danger.

Whoever is on the scene is now requesting 2 additional EMS Units. Central is dispatching Station 16 EMS and Station 5 EMS for an ambulance each. That is a total of 3 EMS units. Sounds like Wicomico Central screwed up with their call taking if they only got enough information for 1 patient.

Oops, Sounds like Gomer Adkins is responding as 74-23 with 4 Goobers on Rescue 74. That is scary.

Now Central is dispatching next due for EMS. Salisbury EMS at Station 2 is being alerted to cover the EMS call for them.

Now someone from Delmar told them to go next due Fire as well. WTF!

Someone is staffing Salisbury Ambulance B-2 at the 'Bury Festival for a Standby. Wicomico Central called them on the radio 10 times before they finally answered. Then Central told them to report to the SPD Command Vehicle for a "medical" emergency.

1) Why does the Salisbury Police Department need a command vehicle? Please don't tell me for the Salisbury Festival. When are they ever at an incident where they establish command?

2) Why did it take so long for the crew of Salisbury Ambulance B-2 to answer up?

3) Why the Hell didn't Wicomico Central dispatch that call as a medical emergency instead of wasting all that time trying to contact a lazy crew staffing an ambulance for a standby.

Bob Culver, you need to get your department head straight and remind them that the Salisbury Fire Department doesn't dictate how Central will dispatch medical emergencies. Dave Shipley is an incompetent department head and should never have been hired in Wicomico County. Send him back to where he came from.

Now Delmar is being alerted for
30020 Foskey Lane for a 3 ambulance call. This is while Delmar is on the MVC that had to be re-alerted and ended up having 3 ambulances dispatched.

So to the Moron at Wicomico 911 dispatching Delmar EMS this is their 5th ambulance call, not their 3rd.

And to the idiot dispatcher at Wicomico 911 if the previous call required 3 ambulances just minutes earlier because Delmar didn't have the volunteers to staff the units don't you think it would have been wise do dispatch next due?

Now Gomer Adkins is asking Central to have Salisbury take that call at Foskey Lane. Thank you Gomer, Central is trying to make you sound like an idiot.

And the idiot dispatcher acted like he was perturbed when he asked the Salisbury ambulance 16 to "Start back to Delmar." This clown dispatching is a complete idiot and Bob Culver does NOTHING to clean that incompetent department up. That same dispatcher is always screwing up the calls he is dispatching. He is always dispatching fire calls as a structure fire and it's not a structure fire. He loves to dispatch multiple units to make it sound cool.

Now the idiot on Delmars Ambulance is at PRMC and says they can handle the call on Foskey Lane. Wayne at Central tells them that Paramedic 16 has already been responding for over 4 minutes.

Then the idiot on the ambulance says they are going to respond anyway to assist them.

First of all, they don't need assistance or Central would have dispatched units stating they needed assistance. Second, it was dispatched as an A1 level call and which really doesn't even require an ambulance. Third WTF is that idiot on Delmar's ambulance going to drive through the city limits like a bat out of hell with lights and sirens on when they do not need, weren't requested and told that an ambulance was already responding.

If there is a Maryland State Police unit available and reading this can you please pull that idiot over and issue a citation. Yes they can.

Memo to Bob Culver: When the Hell are you going to do something about all this freelancing going on with the volunteer fire companies and their freelancing.

This county is long overdue for a countywide paid EMS system with some oversight. These idiots getting paid with our tax dollars need to answer to someone with some authority.

10:53 not funny for those that reside there. This is NOT a joke. period.

Most of these paramedics getting paid by the volunteer fire companies are working for them because they can't get a real job at a real EMS Department. Remember someone posted the other day about Chuck Ward who got fired by the Berlin Fire Company in Worcester County? I rest my case.

To the original poster...What exactly is 'answered up'?

No station goes out without being dispatched and told to do so. Problem is not with the individual stations.

Looks good on their Records as to how many calls
they respnded to, huh.

What the heck is going on when you call in , for
possible heart attack and 2 Firetruck respond to
the call along with the ambulance.
Something needs to be Looked into here and Tax payers
need to demand it ! They're fudging the records and
requesting more Cty money-----Tax payers money!!!

If you scanner jockeys actually worked as an EMS you wouldn't have so much to gripe about. If you sit and analyze every call then you must have a sad existence. You complain about volunteers, do you know what that means?? A person CHOSE to do this and you call them idiots? Get your behind up and become a volunteer and teach us your ways because clearly you know how to fight every fire and treat every wound.

I agree. What a bunch of idiots cracking jokes instead of being pissed that something is broke with this system and people are dying.

If you were in the fire service you would know. It means they answered the call. They were dispatched to a call and they answered up just like you answer your phone.

Chuck Ward! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

He barely passed his paramedic class and then had to take test after test after test and refresher class after refresher class until he finally got lucky and passed the test.

Then he got written up so many times and got suspended by his employer and finally he got fired by the Berlin Volunteer Far Compnee!

He also got written up by MIEMSS on multiple occasions.

Eric Tyler is another Chuck Ward if that tells you anything. He finally gave up his medic certification.

I was under the impression that Salisbury had a far chief in charge of it all and Jake Day makes sure the paid crews get all the major work before any volunteers are called, so how does the dispatcher know how to handle all the calls? Who does 911 dispatch work for? Why is it Bob culver's fault when the far chief makes the rules?

I'm not in the business, but from my armchair, the 911 dispatcher has too many bosses and no rulebook to go by, and certainly doesn't have EMS workers who have a clue, either.

Golden Gardens is about 5 minutes from the Parsonsburg firehouse.

Actually, the 911 center caters to the fire chiefs association and the radio committee in Wicomico county. Salisbury, who runs well over 75% of the calla in the county, had little say in the dispatching procedure except for how Salisbury is dispatched.
The best thing to happen to wicomico county would be a complete audit of all volunteer fire companies followed by implementation of a county fire supervisor or director.
Salisbury should be like OC and have it’s own dispatch center.
