Mark Zuckerberg Tells Senate: Election Security Is An 'Arms Race'

Mark Zuckerberg faced dozens of senators — and the American television audience — to take "hard questions" on how Facebook has handled user data and faced efforts to subvert democracy.

"We didn't take a broad enough view of our responsibility, and that was a big mistake. It was my mistake, and I'm sorry," the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, uncharacteristically wearing a suit, said in his opening remarks. "I started Facebook, I run it, and I'm responsible for what happens here."

Zuckerberg testified Tuesday before a joint session of the Senate commerce and judiciary committees.

He spoke for more than four hours. If you want the full experience, you can watch the video above, or on C-SPAN here.

So let me get this straight - the generation that needs to make everything about themselves public is upset that their information is being shared? Then stay the hell off social media for God's sake!

Mark Zuckerberg is NOT YOUR FRIEND. You may think so and he may pose as just a nice guy who wants to share in your lives but he is one cold, hard Capitalist. This guy has a net worth of $40 Billion Dollars give or take and he has produced nothing tangible. It is not something of value to anyone but Mr. Zuckerberg and his pals. You can't hold it in your hand, you can't touch it, it just is. Facebook is a good old fashion money grab praying off of young peoples need to be relevant. The rabid Facebook users are so shallow it makes me think that if this is where we are now what pathetic garbage will the future bring.

Truly a dire situation; trying to explain Facebook to old people

As an old person (50ish), I depend on FB to keep in touch with family all over the country. I don't put anything on FB that I'm not willing to share. There is nothing in "my data" that can be damaging to me. If you are active in social media, you expect people to have access to your data.

I am not cool with the censorship of conservative views though.

I know right. Old people. They don't realize that Facebook is for cyber stalking old high school girlfriends, hooking up with them and ruining your already shaky marriage. Facebooks awesome.

Zuck is an intelligence operative.
He is playing the role of the creator and CEO of the CIA's greatest spying tool.

Seriously, it took a TEAM of extremely intelligent Asian people to create Facebook.
Think about it.

Hey genius. The future isn't in tangible items. China already has that locked down while they kick our asses at renewable technology. Our huge export is services. I know it's hard to wrap your head around something unless you can put your hands on it. The concern is the platform being used to spread false information that can, say, directly impact a democratic election. Facebook is free and with all free apps that means we are the product. Ads are geared towards what you show interest in. You better buckle up because the future is going to kick you in the teeth if you cant adapt
