A doctor died on Wednesday, after being beaten and left for dead in a ditch while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Dr. William O'Byrne went on vacation last week with friends, and at one point got detached from the group, his friend Jason Hall told CBS 42.
The friends later found him in a hospital, where he was hooked up to a ventilator. They say he had been beaten and left for dead in a ditch.
The 54-year-old, who appeared to be a bachelor, was then flown back to the U.S. on life support so he could get better treatment at the hospital where he worked, UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
But he succumbed to his wounds and died there on Wednesday, the local coroner's office confirmed.

You couldn't pay me to vacation in Mexico.
Tain't safe down there. Cheap vacations, but not a safe place for a "gringo."

I have been to Riviera Maya 5 times. Seen the ruins at Tulum, saw the serpent on the equinox at Chichen itza, climbed the temple at Coba, snorkled in Gulf reefs and jungle rivers. Absolutely beautiful. Rented a car to drive around and took public transportation to the city center.
It is a shame that you all want to blame the failures of the leaders YOU elected on people in Mexico that cant change their own situations let alone the situation in this country.
