Bill that led Craigslist to cut personals 'gives police teeth'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — People who looking for romance or casual sex on Craigslist will now be out of luck.

On Friday, the popular classifieds website removed its "personals" section, citing a federal antisex trafficking bill that would hold the website and others responsible for illegal activity.

While sites like Craigslist and Backpage have become a popular place for people to find casual hookups, they're also used to facilitate prostitution and sex trafficking.

"The internet has completely changed the face of these investigations," Kent County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Joel Roon told 24 Hour News 8 Monday.

For two years, Roon worked on a federal task force aimed at protecting kids. He said those trying to facilitate prostitution and sex trafficking have increasingly turned their focus to the internet.

They will just find another way and regular people who are not sex trafficing or even looking for an online date will pay the price. Politicians all think they are so smart. Like this bill will make members of the world's oldest profession just throw up their hands and give up. Give me a break. This is another bill that will just be used to errode your rights.

Seriously, trying to legislate and regulate moral behaviour, we all know that don't work. What a waste. Legalise it, regulate it, and tax it.

This went on before the internet and will continue after it.
