American adults just keep getting fatter

U.S. adults continue to put on the pounds. New data show that nearly 40 percent of them were obese in 2015 and 2016, a sharp increase from a decade earlier, federal health officials reported Friday.

The prevalence of severe obesity in U.S. adults is also rising, heightening their risks of developing heart disease, diabetes and various cancers. According to the latest data, published Friday in JAMA, 7.7 percent of U.S. adults were severely obese in the same period.

Public health experts said that they were alarmed by the continuing rise in obesity among adults and by the fact that efforts to educate people about the health risks of a poor diet do not seem to be working.

While the latest survey data do not explain why Americans continue to get heavier, nutritionists and other experts cite lifestyle, genetics and, most importantly, a poor diet as factors. U.S. fast-food sales rose 22.7 percent from 2012-2017, according to Euromonitor, while packaged-food sales rose 8.8 percent.

The problem is that every day they (researchers) says don't eat butter, don't drink coffee don't drink whole milk, etc, they are BAD. As soon as you cut that stuff out of your diet, lo and behold, it's all good. This is the real yo yo diet. After a while, people just stop caring and eat what they like.

You're right, 7:00. That's why I keep eating Doritos. Sure, they say they're bad for you now, but I bet in 10 years they'll be promoted as the healthiest food this side of quinoa!

12:54 AM - its not about junk food. You think that crap they are selling you in the grocery store is real food? Educate yourself. When a burger is $2 and a salad is $7 WTH do you expect the poor to buy to feed their families?

7:00 AM - Another idiot. Butter is fine. The alternative is margarine which is one molecule away from plastic. Coffee and milk are fine. Keep your day job because your stint as clueless dietician are over.

Its a complicated issue and neither the government the food industry nor the medical community want to take responsibility for what they created.

Please read 7:oo again. I did not say butter etc were bad for you, the "researchers"say that, then further down the road, reverse what they originally said.

The sad thing is they all seem to congregate at Wal Mart wearing spandex and bedroom slippers. Then look in the cart and see all the great choices they make. Their snotty nosed six year old is drinking a Mountain Dew and already weighs 150lbs. Also if minorities are under fed why are 95% of the women large and in charge.
