That's a water level gauge and not an active flashing emergency light. Look up the NFPA requirements for new fire trucks. That must be displayed on the both sides of the truck. Can not be forward facing or flashing..... And no, I am not a member or employee of SFD nor do I support all things SFD just think this post is extremely petty and uneducated. I guess you are going to also complain about them training with the equipment. I for one find it refreshing to see them training on a skill that is not utilized nearly enough in the fire service.

Of course they are, what police agency is going to ticket them? Just like the volunteers with the lights in their grills or on their dash are illegal but no cop has ever ticketed one of them. That is state law as well, private citizens cannot display any type of emergency flashing lights.

i too noticed the lights were on the side and not emergency flasher lights. Duh!
