AMERICANS OWN NOTHING: FLORIDA COUPLE PROVES GOVERNMENT CLAIMS OWNERSHIP OF THEIR HOME

Nancy Nemhauser and Ludomir Jastrzebski were fined $100 per day for the crime of painting their home and property fence like a Van Gough piece of art. The mural is stunningly artistic, but the city is basically claiming Nemhauser and Jastrzebski don’t own their home by fining them over $8000.

The daily fines will continue until the painting, an homage to Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” is removed from private property. Mount Dora, Florida officials say the mural violates the city’s sign ordinance. The homeowners have been fighting the city for months to keep the mural on their home. But should the courts (owned by the government) declare the mural removed, it means the homeowners don’t own and cannot do with their property as they see fit. They may only ask permission to alter government property. The dictatorship many fear is already here.

I own my house, too, but it doesn't mean I can start a pig farm in my neighborhood. Ordinances are there to protect all of us. If these Artists don't like neighborhood covenants, they should not have moved into a neighborhood. They knew it when they moved in.

Yeah but they didn't start a pig farm. All they did was paint their own home. They should be able to paint it any way they like. After all this is America right.

I don't care what people say about owning there home you never own your home you rent it you pay property taxes to government or if you don't you lose it. you cant do what you want to your property without permission. you need permits to do anything on your property. I understand a lot or ordinances are in place to keep you from losing property value. but if you let your grass get to high you get tickets. you don't keep your sidewalk clear you get tickets. you don't keep everything in top notch shape you get tickets. the government tells you what you have to do and you have no say over your property at all. when I owned my home I could not change my old windows or doors without permission and had to go to the housing people with what I wanted to put in and due to it was different then what was already there. I was denied even if it help in upgrading my home and help with my heating and cooling so anyone who says the own their home I say NOT

Like HOA people, they care more about their little rule book and The crumb of authority they think they have than they do their friends and neighbors. I watched an HOA president chase an illegal alien lawnmower down the street with a camera for dumping grass clippings in the woods (instead of working for a solution like providing common area for all to dump clippings.) Most of them are nuts. Same with city code enforcement. I’d bet you could find dozens of REAL enforcement issues within a mile of this very house that they seemingly just can’t find or conveniently overlook depending on who the owner knows in the good ole boy network.

5:27 AM Thank you for your very narrow view. Too bad you did not do any research before sharing you uninformed thoughts and took the word of this poorly written article.

ONe part of the article claims is violates a sign ordinance another part claims it violates a graffiti ordinance another article claims it poses a safety hazard.

Fact is Mount Dora Code Enforcement inspectors declared the mural graffiti last year but officials later rescinded that ruling and instead dubbed it an illegal sign.

The homeowner in fact followed all the rules when she asked the city about painting the home and was told there were no permits needed and no restrictions. There are also other homes and businesses in town with similar type of paintings.

When she did not cave and got an attorney the 31 day cap on the fines suddenly got changed to retroactively fine her forever.

The homeowners also live in a non-restricted community with no homeowner’s association.

“When a statute is that broad it gives almost unlimited discretion to the city to kind of pick and choose who they want to enforce it against, which is exactly what has happened here.”

There you go - kinda makes you and your comment look stupid.

That's why you find out the community rules before you buy. Ocean Pines requires only certain colors on houses.
Not sure who remembers but there was a guy furious at Ocean Pines who started up a pig farm right at the North gate.

The use of a "sign ordinance" enact such levies on ones property is an audacity. If someone tried to strip you of your freedom of speech and self expression would you just say "ok I'll move to another neighborhood"?

That's why I never live in neighborhoods
Country life is peaceful and wonderful !

I kind of like the way it looks. Good for them.

6:33 the guy that started that pig farm wanted to build a house there but was turned down because it was zoned agricultural soooo guess what, they got a pig farm. It's called poetic justice.

Duh

Don't we all know this?

I mean, we do PAY PROPERTY TAXES.
If we don't pay the "tax" they take our home
That means we don't own the home.

Geez.

Am I really this smart?
Or am I surrounded by idiots?

He was not part of OP and wanted to build a shopping center. OP fought it because it was zoned farm land so he put in a pig farm. Same thing happened with a farmer I know which had a development go up by his farm, they complained about his cows so he moved his pigs to the property line, the complaints stopped!
