A Viewer Writes: Police Report

Okay, so by this Bozo’s own admission, police were called tp Marshalls for a criminal complaint at 8pm, but the suspect was gone on police arrival, but then a call came in about an armed robbery across the parking lot at Best Value inn and a suspect was CAUGHT, but your stellar police department DID NOT walk the suspect across that parking lot to ask the Marshall’s employees for identification of the perp to see if this was the guy who caused the first crime. INSTEAD this talking head offers to us all that if we want a mug shot of this Powell guy, (Marshalls) will have to request one from the PD by phone.

This is why crime is so high in Salisbury. Gee, Mr. Obvious, they just never made the connection!

Your PD is a complete failure and needs to be dissolved.

Hey, self proclaimed "Bozo", the cops can't just parade a suspect around the town to see how many other crimes he can be connected to. There are procedures to follow, which you are apparently not privy to. Get of the high horse agenda you are on.

Salisbury police dept. has always been a training police dept. for some reason. Officers start there and move on to other areas when they have a little experience. The one who stay there are dumb as a brick including Duncan Doe nuts.

Okay, 9:23, so they take him there in the squad car and have the employees who were still there from the Marshall's assault I.D. him and add that charge at the booking. Are you saying that couldn't have been done because of some sort of "procedure"?

9:23 The complainant from Marshalls could certainly have been asked to come across the parking lot to ID suspect in custody.

9:23 not so long ago in SC we had some stuff stolen out of our car. We saw who was doing it and got a description of the truck. We were able to flag down an officer and told him which way the truck drove off. He took off after the truck telling us to wait and shortly after another officer arrived. While he was taking the report they ended up stopping the truck a few miles away. We were told to wait. About 1/2hr later the officer arrived with the suspect handcuffed, brought him up to our vehicle and asked us to identify him as our their which we were able to. They don't have to "parade a suspect around town to see how may other crimes he can be connected to" but they certainly could have gone back to see if the Marshall's employees could ID him. That is how crimes are solved. It doesn't take long for the picture in someone's mind of what someone looks like to leave and any officer who doesn't know this basic fact isn't interested in solving crimes.

Change the procedure let's use some common sense just drive over to the door of Marshall and have them look at him. Done

9:23 didn't do his job and now is calling names. Don't worry, you won't get fired in SPD for not doing your job.

That perp can be shown to the store personnel and other witnesses later, after he is in a cell, so there's nothing wrong with how SPD handled the matter, which is in accordance with SOP.

You people that live within the city limits can blame your local mayors and city councils that you elected over the past 25 years or so for the crime in Salisbury.
First off, none of them ever took the initiative or the time required to investigate how the Salisbury Police department was understaffed and repeatedly failed at retention of officers. They were clueless as to police operations and didn't care as long as they never became a victim of crime.
Secondly and in relation to the first point, the mayors and councils that were in power failed and still fail to properly compensate police officers. No one of sane mind can blame a police officer for the desire to be paid the highest salary and receive the best benefits for the job that they perform, which is exactly why so many officers have left Salisbury Police Department over the years.
Next, the primary goal of the mayor and city councils is to promote business and growth for the city, which is solely about revenue for the city coffers. A vast amount of property has been annexed into the city limits of Salisbury which includes a larger population of people. When this annexation occurs the last item on the list of considerations is for police, ems and fire service.
The list goes on but as you can read it isn't difficult to see where the blame needs to lay.

9:23 finally someone said it. Don't listen to these internet cowboys. They're always the toughest, smartest, bravest keyboard warriors this side of the Mississippi

9:23 Are you saying cops follow the law, becasue they don't and if you think they do, you are the fool... Go watch you tube, you will truly see how cops are, Mr who lives in a bubble his own self...

You can't fix stupid!!!!!!

@9:23 & 11:23

Procedure should have been after the suspect was detained at the second incident. He should have been taken to the first incident in a squad car, in handcuffs and identified by the Marshall's employees. This would have been done because both incidents were in the same proximity and close in time. Retired Maryland State Trooper here.

10:17, why inconvenience the Marshall's employees on their own time on a different day to make a separate trip to a JAIL? These two incidences HAD JUST HAPPENED WITHIN MINUTES OF EACH OTHER and best resolved on site when memories are FRESH! You, 9:23 & 11:23 are what is wrong with the SPD and you need to fix your department or turn it over to the Sheriff's Department and go be Wal-Mart greeters.

I believe most of Salisbury's crime is generated by the local prison. Once in jail. Spouse with kids not too far behind. Go on welfare because spouse in Jail and find slum Lord housing. Prisoner get out and remains in Salisbury area. Picks up crime again. Police not paid enough to deal with because the department needs their toys - new SUV computers. Lord knows taxes are sky high. It is a vicious circle for which I had the answer.

February 9, 2018 at 11:36 AM:

Most cops are trained in the law, and how to follow the law. Most do, some don't. Whats's the matter? Did you get a ticket you didn't think you deserved? Who's the fool, when you paint all the cops with the same brush? YouTube is some cops on video, not all cops. Go ahead and stay in your parent's basement watching your generation eat Tide Pods on YouTube, while the rest of us are leading productive lives. You are right about one thing though, YOU can't fix your stupidity.

Let’s “dissolve” the police department. smh.

Clearly the comment writer knows nothing about police procedure, the law or the 4th amendment. Police can not bring a suspect back to a crime scene for identification. Police can only bring the witness to the suspects location for a "show up" identification.

1:06 could be more incorrect.

Most of these cops are educated here on the Shore in public high schools.

535 is totally wrong. See Retired Trooper statement above.

5:35 is 100% correct for the state of Maryland.

Well that explains it then!
