Then, during the past year, another pothole has opened up in a spot not 50 feet away where a depression has formed under the road in a spot where every tire of any vehicle turning off Zion onto Naylor Mill must travel. Being open for most of the summer, I snapped a photo on 8/15 showing it in a depression that would clearly hold water and soften the soil under the roadbed which furthered the damage surrounding the hole.
Well, shortly after these pictures were taken, this pothole got “patched”. Now, I’d like to imagine the men and equipment dispatched out to make this repair. I’m sure the Big Yellow Dump Truck was there with driver and flashing lights. Maybe the Supervisor was on that truck or stopped by in his own pickup to instruct. Then, let’s add the required flagger or two to set out the cones and direct traffic around the Big Yellow Truck at a VERY busy intersection while what, at least one more made the “repair”.
Let’s see, that’s at LEAST one dump truck, four men and a load of hot mix and they left us with this gem!
Then, the traffic packed it down, leaving us a pothole that collects water and soaks the soil under which will freeze this winter and pop up making an even bigger pothole much like the one 50 feet away grew to!
NOTHING.
Now, you and I all know these two spots will be turning to garbage just as the asphalt plants are shutting down for the winter and the crappy weather is upon us! All that money spent on men, materials and equipment and nobody could get out the saw, cut out all the bad areas and use the asphalt that was already on the truck to do a job right the first time is now going to have to be spent all over again once on a temporary wintertime repair and second on an even larger repair in the spring, probably involving a paving machine then!
Bend over, folks, and be sure to pay your taxes on time this year! We’re doing this to ALL your roads, LOL! And the job security is FANTASTIC !

Pubic Works!what a joke
Why does this surprise anyone , the state roads and the county roads hire idiots and have idiot leadership. If they would hire some Mexicans instead of people of color they would get things done right. Say what you want , one Hispanic will do the work of 3 blacks . That's not racist , that's a fact. The truth will set you free.
What about white people? Are you so use to seeing black or Mexican doing the job you think white people dont want it? White people dont want a state pension, sick time, personal days, vacation, medical insurance, dental, vision and option of 401k plan on top of pension?? Or are you saying white people are unable to do the job? Just what are you saying?
I agree with 8:46 on the idiots. But which is it? I thought Hispanics were stealing all our jobs and now you want to hire them? They are hardworking. So shouldn't they be allowed to stay and contribute to the economy. Oh that's right! We're getting rid of the dreamers. Kicking them out won't bring your job at the steel mill or the coal mine back.
We have the same problem an the intersection of south bound Snow Hill Rd and Nutters Cross Rd. All they ever do is either dump in some dirt or gravel. It has yet to b repaired and has done damage to several vehicles who do not know that this pothole is there.
Conspiracy for LE to pull you over for swerving . Happens all the time.
when I worked downtown, there was a pothole on a city street that continued to get bigger by the week.
I finally went out with some concrete and fixed it myself. Right or wrong, it's still fixed 10 years later.
Why can't some smart kid make an app (like Waze) that can inform public works where the potholes are. The ones with the most complaints would get priority.
And... wait for it.... teach them how to fix them right the first time and hold them responsible.
or, it the public works employees don't give a damn, lets get county prisoners to fix them.
I am pretty sure you don't mean Zion road and Naylor mill Road because that takes you behind gander mountain and those businesses right up to the door of Delmarva power... You can't get to Naylor mill road from there...
You can however, get to Naylor mill road from northwood drive or northgate drive... northgate drive is the road behind lowes to get to sam's club... most should know it, it has the SSA building there...
I am pretty sure, they had one guy or two, come with a truck or dump truck to patch the hole... It was a cold path more than likely which means, no shutting down traffic, no cones, and no traffic control devices... Your argument or complaint is unnecessary and furthermore, quite tiresome becasue 1. we know no one will fix anything in this city, but they sure can charge you a lot in taxes to do a whole lot of nothing... 2. you have no facts of material, or workmen or time spent on said patch... As I stated above more than likely it was a cold patch which means a guy with a shovel scoops out a handful of pavement and slaps it int he whole and uses the bottom of the shovel to compact it...
It is funny to see though becasue it will always re open as a whole that way... All patches do over time... What I find funny in the pavement world is, how they will re-pave a road, and not but a few hours or a day later come and saw cut the width of the road to put in a new pipe that could have been done before paving... Then that patch sinks and makes a divot the whole length of the road with.... I also find it funny how they fix pavement sinking by an inlet by re-patching it over and over like they have done to the mall... Instead of just fixing the pipe to the inlet connection... No don;t do the cheap one time fix... Lets do the costly patch after patch after patch...
They will keep on charging you people more and more and more while they do less and less and less and then start fining you for not doing what your taxes pay for them to do!!!! Then you will get on here complain and complain and complain, and then do absolutely nothing to fix the situation... Then wash, rinse, repeat!!!!!
I thought you people got the memo, "If its not downtown, then we dont care about it"
10:16 Zion Rd. Meets with Naylor Mill behind the Mall.
Huh? What the hell are you talking about?
Ummmm, the post is right, Zion road @ Naylor mill road. Your thinking of west Zion road Einstein. Wow
Just take notice what is riding around in the trucks that fix this kind of stuff and then you will know what the problem is.
