TEXAS PASTOR JOEL OSTEEN RESPONDS TO HURRICANE HARVEY CRITICISM AFTER CHURCH REMAINS CLOSED TO VICTIMS

Texas pastor Joel Osteen has responded after the televangelist was slammed for not opening his megachurch to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Osteen, the lead pastor of Lakewood Church—which is located at a 16,800-seat stadium that previously hosted the NBA’s Houston Rockets—said in a statement issued late on Monday that the church had “never closed our doors.”

“We will continue to be a distribution center to those in need. We are prepared to house people once shelters reach capacity. Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm,” said Osteen in the statement quoted by ABC News.

Fake pastor in it for the money. Greed is a sin

Did they mention that the church is flooded also? It may seat thousands of people but that doesn't mean it can house that many people. They have said they will open it as soon as they can but it is flooded just like many other places.

Did you see the pictures showing it was fine except for below ground hallways. It is a stadium/arena complex like to superdome in New Orleans.

Everyone has obviously forgotten what happened in New Orleans at the Super Dome...why would Lakewood put themselves out there for the potential lawsuits that are sure to come. Oh how quick the judgments fly.

That's how one gets in front of a story - IMMEDIATELY respond, not letting it fester (whether is right or wrong). Sitting, waiting like the last 8 years......ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not my favorite Minister, but he is on the list for the FEMA people to call when they need him. I hate fake news. He is doing what he can to help.

I dont blame him, listening to npr news most illegals live in texas, 1/2 a million, that being said there is no room at local shelters for American citizens because they are housing a majority of that population.
