A Viewer Writes: WBOE

Just the same as we did a couple years ago, our neighbor is having to fight with WBOE & Transportation about letting her child attend the school of which district we live in. According to the boundary maps, our small neighborhood is clearly in the Willards/Pittsville/Parkside school district. Her child attended Pittsville Middle last year, and is set to attend high school this year. His schedule, set up by the WBOE and school administrators, is for him to attend Parkside. This past week she contacted transportation to find out what bus would be picking him up. This is when they tell her that we live in Wi-HI's district, which is false. Their whole reasoning for this is because they don't want to reroute a bus a 1/4 mile to pick her son up. There is also a second high school student whose family just moved into the neighborhood who is scheduled to attend Parkside. They too will not have transportation. It's frustrating to clearly have all the proper information stating that you live in a specific school district, just to have the WBOE & Transportation blatantly lie to you.

Remember, it is all about the money and is always all for your kids!!!!

And you people keep on sucking it up like a vacuum on drugs, and then when it isn't what they tell you it is, then you decide to complain or put actin behind it!!!!

Where were you or your action when someone else had this problem??? NO where to be found as usual... But again, your tune changed becasue now you are affected by it!!!! let that be a lesson to you and these other dumb-asses who think they will never be inconvenienced or have problems like this just because it hasn't happened to them directly yet!!!

You people need to learn, that everything will affect you eventually!!!!!

1:29- You need to get off your high horse and chill the heck out! What is your deal? I've read your comments in the past, and I know it's you with the many punctuation's. You are one angry troll, just looking to call someone, anyone, an idiot.

You need to learn, you are just as fallible as everyone else, except you are someone I would clearly steer clear of. You're just a sad, bitter, and small person. Get over yourself!

@ 1:29,

I guess you didn't pay attention to the letter. It clearly says that their neighbor is having this current issue. So they took it upon themselves to help their neighbor now. Sure it will likely affect them in the future, however, they chose to help take a stand now.

I remember this. The neighborhood in question is on the left side of FG road (back facing rt50). They claim that the left side of the road is to go to Parkside and the right to WiHi. The boundary according to the families is the center of the road, not the road itself. So what the families want, is that the entire length of fg road (which has always been WiHi), left side only to go to Parkside.

Where is the closest house to them that is clearly in the Parkside district? 1/4 mile? If this is where I am thinking, that would still be on FG road, or close to Rohm. Is Rohm Rd parkside?

I just always thought FG to Mt herman was Wihi. Sounds like their realtor sold them a giant lie along with a house. Did the Boe confirm when they bought the house that it was indeed in Parkside district? Personally, I would not fight to get my kid in to Parkside, it is not as great as they want you to believe it is.

Just my 2 cents, best of luck.

Go on to the BOE website and type in your address. That will tell you where to go. Sounds to me that it may be your issue and not the BOE. Sorry about your luck.

Why would the district split the road down the middle and have 1 side go to Parkside and the other side to WiHi? That makes no sense. You need 2 different buses going to 2 different schools to travel down that road. What a waste by the BOE.

The school boundary map clearly shows All property east of Forest Grove road as Parkside and all property west of Forest Grove road as Wi-Hi. All of Rohm Rd is Parkside. I by no means consider Parkside a great high school, however it is my opinion that it's the better of the three in town, and that's coming from a Bennett grad.

Sadly this neighborhood is still so new, it doesn't register.

Not necessarily. My daughter's bus goes to WIHi AND Parkside because our road crosses Forest Grove. So it has kids from bith high schools on the same bus.

To add to 8:18:
Property on the north side of Mt Hermon go to Wi Hi. Property on the south side go to Parkside. That boundary of Forest Grove would have been pushed further east if the proposed district changes had been implemented. That would have made all of Pittsville WiHi. So be careful what you wish for. With that said, the BOE is required to provide transportation to school, but it does NOT mean they have to pick a child up at their front door. There are many kids who have bus stops they must walk to. If supervision is an issue, hook up with that other parent and share the responsibility of getting your kids to the nearest bus stop. Seriously, a 1/4 mile? And you're complaining? It's not like they are elementary kids!

I'd like to know why people expect transportation to school? These transportation programs need to be phased out and cancelled. The return is no where near worth the investment. Return the stolen money to the citizens.

The Wicomico County Board of Education and Parkside High School makes some extremely stupid decisions. Especially when it comes to coaching.

Chris Burkhardt is the worst coach they could have ever assigned to running the Parkside JV and Varsity soccer program. They have a basketball coach trying to coach the JV team and Chris Burkhardt trying to coach the Varsity team, but have the authority over both teams.

Burkhardt is the worst coach in Parkside history. Why is he allowed to coach? Because he is a school teacher at Parkside? Stupid choice. The kids don't like him because he has no knowledge or skills to be a head coach. Why is he coaching because he is ruining talented kids? He should go back to teaching and stick with that.

4:23 it's not just parkside where the coaches are total losers. Bennett for sure does and I would imagine wihi has their share also. School board policy mandates someone in the school gets first dibs, then it goes out to school district wide then if no one steps up it goes out to the community. so we end up with total losers, (bennett varsity girls coach), who have never coached or even played the sport before. With no idea what it takes or how to get there. Shame cause they have the talent just no adult supervision!
This is what our tax dollars go to! time for hanlan to make a change in policy! we should be installing values and pride in our athlete/scholars/schools. we don't even get mediocrity!

I can agree here, the Wi-Hi girls lacrosse team has won 1 game in the past four years.
