Search Underway For Suspects In Wicomico Co. Murder

(SALISBURY, MD) – State and local police are searching for multiple suspects believed to have been involved in the overnight murder of a man who was shot after being confronted by the suspects at a Wicomico County home.

The victim is identified as Anthony (NMN) Cropper, 57, of Salisbury, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Information regarding suspects is vague at this time. Investigators have been told there was more than one suspect, but further descriptive information is unavailable at this time.

The preliminary investigation indicates that just after 1:00 a.m. today, officers from the Salisbury Police Department responded to a call for a shooting in the 1100-block of Middleneck Road, Salisbury, Md. Upon their arrival, officers and EMS personnel found the victim had sustained what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound and was deceased. Salisbury Police Department detectives responded and a request was made for the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit to conduct the investigation.

Preliminary investigative information indicates that shortly before the call was made to police, the victim had answered a knock at the door. He was apparently confronted by several suspects and words were exchanged before shots were fired and the suspects fled the scene.

The victim was at the home of a friend when the shooting occurred. There were several people in the home who came to his aid and called police. No one else in the home was injured in the incident.

A motive is unclear at this time. State Police investigators obtained a search warrant for the scene and crime scene technicians have been processing for evidence throughout the day. Investigators have conducted numerous interviews and will continue to contact individuals to develop additional information. The victim’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to verify the cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information about this murder is urged to contact police immediately at either the State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101, or the Salisbury PD at 410-548-3165. Callers may remain anonymous. Information may also be provided confidentially on-line at salisburypd.com
