That's the point, they don't want to be at the airport. They claim that they want to improve response times and provide better coverage for the citizens of the county. But, when they are given an area that has extended response times and limited coverage they don't want it. They don't care about response times and coverage. They would rather build a fire station in the middle of the Salisbury fire district which already has sufficient coverage. Why? Just because they think it will make the career staff and the city mad. It's all about egos. They don't give a damn about the citizens.

A quick comment here..... how can a volunteer fire department provide coverage at a public airport with commercial traffic?!I don't think the FAA will allow it unless they guarantee 24/7 in station coverage with a mandated minimum staffing. I don't think the volunteers can guarantee this type of coverage nor do they want to.

The best thing to know about the will be when will this whole fiasco stop? They have drug this city and county fire service through the mud enough. They are an embarrassment to the fire service and everything it stands for. It's time for them to finally go away. Period.

There will have to be career staffing at the airport. The question is who would they report to? I'm surprised Parsonsburg is giving up the airport. Next they will be giving up Kilburnie and Mount Hermon Rd.

9:07 It seems by actions that it is the city and county fire service who is slinging the mud. Actions speak louder than words.

The city and county have had to deal with these renegades in this recent fiasco. The city(FD) has been dealing with them for years.

They have never had their hearts in the right place, have never been willing to step up for the citizens. They have always put themselves and their egos first. This latest round has just unfortunately involved the county more.

Actions do speak louder than words. So does inaction, as in their lack of response and service when it counted. They couldn't respond and serve when that was literally ALL they had to do.

Now they expect people to believe they will get out AND handle everything else that comes with being a true volunteer fire department. Nope.

They have always viewed themselves as a social club and not a fire department. They will never be anything more than t shirt wearers who only want to stand on the sidelines.

So what where they want to build a station in the so called fire district. The Station 1 volunteers have seceded and now there is no fire department Station 1 at the old station. Shut it down now that the Station 1 volunteers got their original Station 1 territory. That means that there are only 2 stations in Salisbury now. One department and 2 stations minus the only Station 1. There are still 14 "departments" in Wicomico County. Salisbury City only has 2 of those 14 stations. The old Station 1 volunteers just relocated to the County. If that is to difficult for you to understand then Tuff T!tty!!

As a County and City tax payer I support the Station 1 volunteers. Jake Day, Rick Hoppes and the rest of the uneducated paid firemen in Salisbury need to grow up. I am sick and tired of paying City and County taxes.

It's time for the City of Salisbury to dissolve the Charter and become One Wicomico County, one tax.

There are still volunteers there, and career people staffing Station 1. So for all intents and purposes it is up and running and has never missed a beat.
The citizens drive by there everyday and see people there happily going about the business of being firefighters. Proudly serving the citizens, whether they are career or volunteer.
What part of that don't YOU understand?
