Months after the City Council left the launch time of summer’s beach fireworks at 10 p.m., a council majority on Tuesday voted to move back the fireworks fuse-lighting to 10:30 p.m.
In the final moments of Tuesday’s work session, Councilman John Gehrig made a motion to move back the show based on responses from Boardwalk business owners on the matter in a survey in March. He received backing from Councilman Matt James and support from Council President Lloyd Martin.
“I think the fireworks are a great appeal, and they’ll keep people on the Boardwalk a half-hour longer even if they have kids,” Martin said. “If you look at the survey, it’s split on the time.”
TEAM Productions has been putting on the fireworks show for the past five years as part of a free event package to add to visitor experience. In February, the Tourism Commission recommended moving the firework show to a later hour based on the request from one business and responses from four others that sit on that commission.

That's too late
Hey OC , your greed is showing..
Don't go if its too late. Forgot to add that parking is $50 a car in the lot on 4th of July so don't go if you are cheap either.
If you pay 50 for parking you are an idiot.
10:30????? Coming from the same group who wanted to do away with the $5K 1st White Marlin of the year. Riddle me this COUNCIL - what IF it rains for each of the locked in dates of Fireworks? Hmmmm.....
10:30 fireworks? HHAHAAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA we are laughing at your lack of knowledge with today's society - AND showing how OLD your mindset really is!
Now you all go figure out how to charge..I mean pay the $2M-$4M for the trams that need replaced...or the $1K you want to charge folks who bought benches that are starting to erode...or time to replace some of the board on the boardwalk (which should have lasted LONGER)...or paint trash cans so they look nice..... OLD mindset INDEED!!!!!!!!!!
ITS HH and I need to get back in the bar...you know the establishments practically on every street corner..HAHAHAHA
3:30--
This isn't talking about the 4th, but the shows on Mon. & Tues. through the season. I'm sorry they decided to go another 1/2 hr. later, as many kids look forward to it, & now will likely be past many's bedtime.
The darker hour makes it better for criminals to ply their trade on the firework watchers.
Who wants to hear that at 10:30 at night? Most children are asleep (or should be)!
Absurd!
I'll go to Salisbury for the show at the Stadium.
It's the summer. Most children are up late while on vacation. It's not a school night.
I knew brining up the cost of parking on the 4th would confuse many people that can't separate two ideas in the same discussion.
To late. Kids will be I bed by then.
