Participants will learn the basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, how to identify potential severe weather, collect information to report along with how to report that information, and basic severe weather safety.
The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans. To obtain critical weather information, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service (NWS), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, established SKYWARN with partner organizations. SKYWARN is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate information.

wow to damn stupid. our government spends billions upon billions on weather satellites, aircraft, ground radars, etc. and now we gonna ask someone to go out look up in the sky and tell us what they see! you can't make this sh!t up. where the hell is the money coming from to support this? and why isn't someone's head served up on a platter? we can double our savings by not only ending such a stupid waste of taxpayers money but by also firing the idiots who came up with this.
