In 2013, the Worcester County Bureau of Investigations began investigating a theft from the Showell Volunteer Fire Company. It was learned that Mark Allan Widgeon, presently of Snow Hill, Maryland, had allegedly used the Showell Volunteer Fire Company’s bank account to make multiple personal transactions. At the time of the thefts, Mr. Widgeon was a volunteer firefighter and held the position of treasurer within the Showell Volunteer Fire Company.
With the assistance of a Forensic Auditor, investigators learned that from 2009-2012 while Mr. Widgeon held the position of treasurer he made multiple personal purchases using the Showell Volunteer Fire Company’s bank accounts totaling well over thousands of dollars
After a lengthy audit of all the bank accounts associated with the Showell Volunteer Fire Company, the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office, applied charges for felony theft scheme involving Mr. Widgeon. The district court commissioner issued an arrest warrant for MR. Widgeon.
On February 25, 2017, at approximately 0800 hours, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Deputies took Mr. Widgeon into custody. Mr. Widgeon went before the Worcester County Circuit Court and was given a $50,000 Unsecured Bond.

This is happening at all volunteer fire companies it seems. Maybe that is why the volunteers of station 1 refuse to give up financial information to the city. To hide their misuse of funding to pay for their christmas parties and give away flat screen TV's to members.
This has been common knowledge for 6 months, why in the world it took so long to charge him, These volunteer companies get so much money they don't even miss $100,000's of dollars for years. Millville VFC $200,000+, Gumboro $75,000. And just wait until you see the others coming. The spend, spend & spend. Everyone has take home Chiefs trucks etc. Disgusting!
How the heck no-one misses over $225,000? These farmen are sharp, that's for sure.
I think Gumboro Fire Dept had the same problem recently. I wonder how many more local VFD do? Maybe they should all be audited to see how their grants and funding are being used.
Most every Vol Fire Co. has serious skeletons, and most of their members know it. They keep it quiet, because most are involved. As the public becomes more knowledgeable, hopefully someday the funds will dry up. When you see the outward waste and misuse, such as the command rigs that are driven everywhere, over the top banquets and shrimp feeds, you will realize, their not really "volunteers"

Thanks Bryan Records for the lie, now crawl back in your Walmart Dumpster!
When is Bob Culver going to demand an audit for all volunteer fire companies in Wicomico County.
Not just Wicomico County departments look at all of them. Especially Caroline County Federalsburg Volunteer fire dept has more equipment and spends more money than large paid departments. I guess it is because over half of the town is on some type of Government assistance.
I don't know how he held the position he did with all the DUI convictions he has had. He did a year in the Snow Hilton on work release after many DUI's. Before he was just a drunk. Now he's a drunk and a thief.
