I also heard on "the street" that the County Exec is also offering some prime help to finance the volunteers. I'm sure it has something to do with the $ issues previously. Even so, unless they're going to buy something off the street or right off the lot, it would take quite some time to get apparatus set up. It does sound like they had a contingency and lined up the logistics prior to initiating the break up.

I think most reasonable people agree that the City of Salisbury is quickly (if not already) becoming a slum with thugs running wild. All the efforts of the people trying to develop downtown are wasted since Day is allowing more low income housing in the City's core.
Why then doesn't it make sense for Culver to cut ties with the failing City and protect the rest of the County? I hope he is supporting Station One in their quest for independence. I think they will receive a lot of fundraising support if needed. I believe the majority of the County residents don't support downtown.
As far as all the discussion about response times, the leaders and some paid of the SPD have done all they can possibly think of to demoralize the volunteers, yet - they still show up - AS VOLUNTEERS!
It is time to drain the swamp in the City and I support Culver concentrating on the rest of the County and letting the City go. The lack of City leadership at every level is appalling.

I hope they throw those lazy bums back on the 8 hr rotating DuPont schedule. Then we will see how many of these "fire jockeys" are truly in it for public service or for their own self interest. I GUARANTEE if they take the 24 hr shifts away and make them go back to 8 hr shifts, they will all be crying and applying elsewhere. It's all about THEM and THEIR desires ALL the time.

The sad thing is that every time that Joe does post a story about the fire department it is because Rick Hoppes is batshit crazy. That fire department has really gone downhill since *Chief Higgins retired and has gotten to the point of no return with Hoppes. A retard if there ever has been.
*It should be noted that some of the current employees played a significant part in Chief Higgins ousting. Yes you read that right. Chief Higgins was forced out due to a few back stabbers currently employed with the Salisbury Fire Department. I know that for a fact because Chief Higgins is a close friend of mine.
*If you see any current employees on Facebook that are friends with Jake Day and Jim Ireton and liking all their comments be concerned, be very concerned. They are sucking up and ready to stab someone else in the back just to get promoted.

Aw some paid farmin lying again! I've got a feeling when the city doesn't get the fire service agreement approved to their liking and the volunteer stations in the county take the county calls there will be some pink slips.
Station 16 and 2 dispatched for a MVC with Rollover. Truck 2 responded, Truck 1 responded, Engine 16 responded to Station 16 to pick up the Rescue Truck, Paramedic 1 responded, Paramedic 16 responded, Assistant Chief 1 responded and Deputy Chief 1 responded. Is there anyone else left in the City to respond? Central advised 1 patient trapped with unknown injuries.
Now does anyone else think this is quite the over kill? Now Rescue 16 answers up with 22D and 3. WTF!
Now 20D transfers command to Assistant Chief 1? You mean a paid Lieutenant can't handle command himself on a routine MVC?
Is there any paid firemen left in the City to cover any further calls? The other ambulance is committed at the hospital.
This is exactly what the Salisbury Fire Department does, self dispatch themselves on any call they want to even if they weren't dispatched to it. If the volunteers at Station 2, Station 1 or Station 16 did that they would be sent back to the station and reprimanded!!
Job justification and no one back filling the stations in case another emergency came in. This is FREAKING CRAZY!! Piss Poor leadership at the Salisbury Fire Department.

Bingo! Darrin Scott sucks up to Rick Hoppes, gets promoted to Assistant Chief and then Deputy Chief and is in charge of promotions and hiring. Some how Darrin Scott's son got hired? Then some how Darrin's grandbaby's daddy got hired? Isn't that illegal? Can't someone investigate that and charge Darrin Scott, John Tull and Rick Hoppes for corruption??

Thank you for understanding the frustration levels of so many over so few. Sometimes, as you stated, some people need to be publicly shamed because they are teflon to their supervisors. Gladwell must have some nude photos of Hoppes because he is untouchable even though he had sex ON DUTY, IN THE WORPLACE ON A CITY OWNED FIRE ENGINE. Despite ALL OF THAT he was still promoted to supervise others. How in the world can that be justified and how can the mayor allow that to happen? SFD is an ongoing soap opera. The leadership is the problem. Everyone can see it but the mayor sits idly by.

You could say that about any thread on here. There are many reasons for people, myself included, not posting their name or any other identifiable information. Retaliation is the biggest concern but there are others. Most reasonable people understand that. Most who keep calling for people to identify themselves are the ones who would seek them out and do some kind of harm to them. It doesn't have to be physical harm. Why else would anyone be so adamant on knowing the identity of someone? Would it change the validity of the persons comment?
Or would it just serve to give ammunition to people who oppose said comment?
Knowing anyone's identity would only give someone another way of personally attacking someone and their opinions in an attempt to discredit them and publicly shame them. If you have a valid argument with facts and information to the contrary, knowing someones name would be irrelevant.

Jimmie Gladwell was feeling great.
Have had a solid day.
Started early on the propane truck. Jumped off for a productive, short and sweet staff mtg at SFD. Then back to propaning it.
Didn't eat my lunch and was going to throw it away after I loaded/parked my truck, but took a shot in the dark that the homeless guy in the median at 50/Nanticoke Rd might be there. He was and I was first at the light to turn, which enabled me to give my lunch to him. He was very thankful and apparently very hungry, as he began to chow down. I'm not sure who felt better about it....Him for having it, or the feeling I got giving it.
Backed in the driveway and before the door to my truck was open all the way, I got attacked by Haylie, who gave Daddy a bunch of hugs n kisses. There is no feeling better than that...
Grabbed a quick shower and by the time I got out, Lacie was home from school and offered up some more hugs. We worked on her homework and then the three of us went for a bike ride. Then home for some scooter and trampoline action.
Read an email stating Acting City Administrator Julia Glanz had been promoted to full status by Mayor (Jacob Day - TAGGED), which is great news! I love it when department head promos come from within. To me, that proves the City believes in its employees and is willing to further invest in those who work hard and are dedicated.
Time to fix some din din, get some baths, and wait for my lovely bride to get home from work for some all-family QT.
Here's to hoping your day was at least half as good as mine has been. And that tomorrow's is even better!

Actually I'm not. In the past ten years the number of people brought into the ER at PRMC that were "over 500 lbs." is less than 25. That is a TEN YEAR PERIOD. Not enough to justify rushing a fire engine on EVERY medical call "just in case".

There is no brotherhood in the Salisbury Fire Department at all. If you are paid and Boss Hogg Hoppes doesn't like you he will make your life miserable. I couldn't agree more and he should restructure the entire fire and EMS operations in the entire county. If they don't like it then he should cut off all funding to them and create legislation that would be appropriate for a county wide fire department like the Anne Arundel Fire Company.

I doubt that. These same douche bag millenials working downtown love that idiot. People involved in the Salisbury Chamber and the Greater Salisbury Committee love that clown with his jacked up teeth and flat top. Who else would write donation checks to an idiot that didn't have an opponent in the city mayoral election? They love his warped vision, they love everything he does. Plus the majority of the city voters are Democrat and they are going to vote for their Boy King. For the past 20 years I have been hearing "wait till the next election we will get a new fire chief and police chief." Barrie Tilgman, Jim Ireton and now Jake Day. Alan Webster and now Barbara Duncan in the police department. Steve Brezler, David See, Jeff Simpson and now Rick Hoppes. It has been a real nightmare for the citizens, employees and volunteers. The only way to see things change is get a real mayor and council. Republican mayor and council majority.
So Muir Boda voted to spend your tax dollars on 4 new paid firemen and allow the unpaid volunteers to leave the city.

That is correct. Everyone knows that Jimmie Gladwell has been in staff meetings with Hoppes and had little temper tantrums and throws ink pens at Hoppes all the time. What a PUSSY Hoppes is to be demoralized in front of his staff like that.
Gladwell sucks up to Mayor Ireton and Mayor Day by friending them on Facebook and put cute little posts with their names on it to make it look like he is their best friend and a great daddy and great leader. Jimmie Gladwell also sends emails to both of them ratting out members of the SFD and giving his expert opinion on how the SFD should be ran because he has taught everyone on the Eastern Shore at MFRI everything they know.
An investigation into sex on the fire truck in a city building should be conducted immediately. Since it involved a County Deputy I would ask Sheriff Lewis to conduct the investigation.

You are 100% correct.
They weren't running the fire truck on ambulance calls 15 years ago so what has changed? Heck they weren't even sending fire trucks on car accidents back then either because they weren't needed.
The only reason they send fire trucks on ambulance calls and car accidents is to run up the numbers. That is a fact!

How come John Dennis was demoted from acting Lieutenant back to a paramedic on the ambulance?
Looks like Hoppes demoted some and promoted the ones he wanted. Why have an annual promotional exam and make the officers take the test over and over again when they already passed it once?

Speaking of promotions, does everyone know that Rick Hoppes was by far the laziest farmin that ever got promoted in the history of the Salisbury Fire Department. Every morning during equipment checks that lazy a$$ would sit on and office chair and wheel himself around the fire engine checking the cabinets instead of walking around and opening the cabinet doors like a normal healthy person would do it. Chief Grogan couldn't stand that lazy a$$!
Think about this, Richard Parson's business has never been annexed by the city, it's like an island of the county surrounded by city. Guess he never wanted to pay city taxes or be forced to pay water/sewer hookups. Can the Salisbury police refuse to respond the next time he's attacked? If they do will the county get a bill?

That's a BS stat you pulled from your rear end. We had a run 4-5 years ago where we had 7 patients in wicomico county alone that were over 500lbs. Not to mention the four I have brought up from somerset county working in Princess Anne.

One of the 8 new applicants was thrown out before for having sex in the annex at Sta. 1. Carrying on the tradition I guess
Do you even realize the burden you wish upon the tax payers by "supporting 8 hour shifts". My company switched from 12's to 8's (plant work not emergency services) and we went from 68 to 98 employees. Do you really want that many more personnel? Oh, you don't think of the actual logistics because you have that much distaste for the "paid man".
Maybe she will sue the city and department for discriminating against her since they have knowledge of Gladwell doing it and he has gone unpunished. Funny a male can do it and nothing happens but a female gets thrown out. This is EXACTY why the mayor and Hoppes HAVE to address Gladwell with severe discipline. It opens the city up to lawsuits from past, current and future employees. If they let Gladwell get away with it, everyone else must be permitted to do it as well. Gladwell's selfish and undisciplined act compromises the integrity of the city as well as creating an unnecessary liability. Additionally, this does not apply ONLY to fire department employees. Since he is an employee of the CITY, if his actions are permitted to go unpunished, every other city employee has the right to do the axact same thing and expect the exact same treatment. Gladwell is a disgrace to the city and SFD.
Says the person who doesn't want to give up their 24 hr shifts that allows them to sleep. You won't need that many employees if you cut 24 hour coverage at all stations idiot. Run it just like it was years ago. 8 hr paid day shift coverage at station 1 and 2 with volunteers handling everything else. Have 24 hr paid coverage at station 16. Problem solved and total number of employees needed reduced.
I know you have a lot of anger towards certain firemen and you are expressing your frustration here on this blog. However, do you not care about their families and what you are doing to them?? Salisbury Fire Department, Failed Leadership
This is a very dark day for the City of Salisbury. This is one of the worst things to happen to this city. Rick Hoppes and Jake Day have given the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Fire Department a black eye. This is a National embarrassment for our city and fire department.
This has been brewing for a long time and it started under the so called leadership of Steve Brezler who was hired by Barrie Tilghman. Steve Brezler was a reject that was forced out of Baltimore County. He was told to retire or be fired so he chose to retire. Unfortunately he was hired by Barrie Tilghman to be the highest ranking officer in the Salisbury Fire Department. He started his Reign of Terror by forcing out and or demoting people he didn't like. Then he promoted the biggest ass kissers in the Salisbury Fire Department and one of them was Rick Hoppes. Ironically several of them are still their today. Then when he and his ass kissers were in place they changed the rules and went after the volunteers. He forced out the volunteer Deputy Chief and several other volunteer fire officers. He also went after employees and volunteers the newly appointed ass kissing fire officers didn't like. Fortunately the volunteers held there ground and forced him out after 2 years.
Then Barrie Tilghman appointed David See as the fire chief. A man that never fought fire and was very close to getting fired by the previous chief before Brezler, until he cleaned up his act. David See did not like the volunteers at all. Then David See started his Reign of Terror by forcing out the volunteer Deputy Chief and gave the job to his buddy from Delmar, Mr. Bill Gordy. Bill Gordy never fought fire in Salisbury and never served as a fire officer and got promoted to the 3rd ranking officer in the department. He acted like he was the Fire Chief himself. Then Bill Gordy, Rick Hoppes and Dru Bragg went around forcing out many of the officers and even attempted to force out Maryland State Delegate Norman Conway who had over 30 years in the department. They changed the rules by making all the volunteers comply with unneeded testing and prescribed burns and breathing apparatus drills yearly. The Reign of Terror also consisted of spending money like there was no tomorrow. Buying new fire trucks and going on paid vacations on the tax payers dime. Fortunately David See didn't last long and he retired

Even Jim Ireton couldn't stand Rick Hoppes and knew he couldn't lead a department. Several candidates were considered and Ireton eventually appointed a volunteer fireman from Virginia that no one liked in Virgina. Not only was Jeff Simpson not liked, he had absolutely no experience running a combination paid/volunteer fire department. Jeff Simpson didn't have a Maryland drivers license to drive fire apparatus or any Maryland Fire and EMS Certifications. Jeff Simpson drove the fire trucks even though he wasn't allowed to. One of the many laws he broke and Ireton did nothing about it. Then Jeff Simpsons Reign of Terror begins and he starts forcing out paid firemen and some volunteers. Fortunately Jeff Simpson could see that Rick Hoppes wasn't a leader as well. He ultimately appointed the biggest ass kisser in the entire fire department. He appointed John Tull as the Senior Assistant Chief of Operations and demoted Rick Hoppes to Deputy Chief of the Office Secretaries. Another violation committed by the outsider Jeff Simpson. Again the spending continued like their was no tomorrow. More fire trucks and more tax payer paid vacations. Fortunately again, this Reign of Terror only lasted 14 months.
After Jeff Simpson retired Jim Ireton appointed Rick Hoppes as the acting fire chief, but he never got confirmed by the city council. Even the City Council new Rick Hoppes was worthless and wouldn't confirm his appointment to Fire Chief. Jim Ireton only did this because he knew it would p!ss off Debbie Campbell, Terri Cohen and Tim Spies who he had been publicly harassing for several years. Rick Hoppes'acting fire chief status continued for many months until a new City Council majority was elected. Guess who was the vote that got Rick Hoppes appointed to fire chief? The one and only Councilman Jake Day!
Then Jake Day became(not elected) Mayor by default and another Reign of Terror continues. By this time Rick Hoppes and John Tull were in full swing weeding out the volunteers so that they could hire more and more paid firemen. Then Darrin Scott gets appointed to assistant chief and is the henchman to go after the volunteers and paid men Hoppes didn't like. More spending like there was no tomorrow. Many demotions to the volunteers. Then Rick Hoppes convinced the Boy Mayor that the paid side needed another Deputy Chief. Three Deputy Chiefs is unheard of across the country, but Darrin Scott is a good buddy of Rick Hoppes so he was rewarded. Then his buddies are promoted as fire officers. Not only that by Darrin Scott is allowed to hire his son as a paid fireman. His son Brady Scott had almost no experience as a volunteer and none as a paid fireman. Then Darrin Scott was allowed to hire the guy that fathered his grandchild. You talk about Nepotism! Then the Reign of Terror continues. More rules and regulations making it harder and harder to retain volunteers. Many demotions in the volunteer ranks. Then finally the volunteers at Station 1 had enough.

I've never heard of that? I've heard of people being escorted out of the building by the police if they were fired for wrong doing?
What did these volunteer firemen do that was so criminal? They put in their notice and offered to continue for an additional 2 months but Rick Hoppes and Jake Day treated them like crap, like a criminal. And then to be taunted and harassed by paid firemen!
So much for the brotherhood in the fire service!

So if they are on their own and not a Corporation, do these Station 1 volunteers have access to the County Funding to pay their legal fees now?

You see, there are many in that crew in which I feel strongly they have forgotten where they came from. It's all about the "Who's Who" and the smart ones stay away from that crowd.

So the difference between people like Bob Culver and myself is this. We, (unlike them) have the CONFIDENCE to make firm decisions and NOT be a friend to everyone just to make them happy. You see, it's people like Jake Day and Mike Dunn, (for example) who do not know how to agree to disagree. Just because I disagree with them does not mean I hate them or wish them ill will. However, when I do disagree with their types, they act like I just killed their Mother and all they do is run around saying either bad things about me or just bold faced lies. Example, Jake Day is running around telling people I do not have the hits we claim and tells them to use some bogus Website to compare numbers. It's total BS. We in turn published our traffic for an entire week PROVING for a fact they/he are liars.
So NO, we were not invited to their Wedding and I can assure you if we had we would have rejected the invitation. I, (unlike many) are not two faced.
Joe will that station still be funded since there still a county station and if they get up and running . I don't see how the county can stop funding them but who am I. Idk how the system works.

While Jake Day and the Leaders of the SFD immediately became REACTIVE and LIED over and over again, you have to tip your hat to these Volunteers who are willing to stand up for their rights.
Rather then some attacking them, learn to agree to disagree instead. You have every right to your opinions but as usual many of you act like these Volunteers just killed your Mother. Grow the hell up and respect their position and stop the HATE. YOU will NOT have any say while an honorable Judge will review both sides and come to a conclusion.
One question: if it so terrible in the Salisbury Fire Department for the volunteers, then why are so many choosing to stay? Station 2, 16, and a few from are staying, they are also coming out to publicly support the chief and department. If it was so terrible they would have joined station 1 corporation.

One should educate themselves on all the sides.Are the volunteers at station 1 providing a service or just on paper. The career fire fighters are on duty 24 hours a day let's see how well it works out to have volunteers cover that responsibility. Whether you agree with the leadership or not chief hoppes has a job to do and that's to protect the citizens and visitor's to Salisbury. And if it can't be done with what he has to work with career or Volunteer he has to make changes.
As for volunteering I see no problem with it at all. But I understand that station 1 discouraged there volunteers from coming in when career people were there, to the point of not giving them credit for hours served. If that's the case then I say shame on them. What better way to make your argument then to say look were helping give you extra staffing.
The equipment and such is serviced and maintenance by the sbyfd feel lucky it doesn't have to come out of your pocket.
When you have to start cooking chicken or standing on a corner to make funds to pay for your next set of gear or fire engine you will soon find out how lucky you are.
If I was in charge of any fire company in wicomico County I would sure be asking why is secret meetings being held with station 1 volunteers and why are they getting so much money while we struggle.

If the Volunteers at Station #1 Corporation decide they want the fire district in the County area which is currently their Station 1 "fire district" I can support that decision. If that is the case and they have Volunteers on file, new or existing, I think that is an excellent idea and all should support that. I also feel that if this does happen the Station 1 corporation should get the funding from the county instead of the Salisbury Fire Department(Rick Hoppes, et. al.)

Have you not been paying attention? Where are the "so many that choosing to stay?" Rick Hoppes has ran most of them off and the only ones left are the coffee club.
If you think people like 85 year old Ex Fire Chief Bill Higgins is "choosing to stay." He is a member of the #2 Coffee Club and that is all. He is supporting Rick Hoppes, but he is not to bright knowing that Rick Hoppes was involved in his ousting as the Former Fire Chief. Former Fire Chief Bill Higgins went to Jim Ireton to support Rick Hoppes for current fire chief. He is also calling Jake Day and County Council Vice President John Cannon defending Rick Hoppes for some unknown reason. He needs to stay out of this mess, especially knowing that Hoppes wanted him out as former fire chief and supported Steve Brezler and kissed his ass for promotion to Captain.

I went to a paid firemens Facebook page and for the past couple of days he has been making childish jokes about the Station #1 volunteers. He is calling them uneducated rednecks that drive big 4x4 pickup trucks. He has a picture of a very overweight fireman climbing a ladder asking where the truck is. There are pictures of Boss Hogg on there, a name that he obviously called one of the members from Station #1 on your post on their exit from the city. I mean there are a lot of childish and immature jokes on that paid fireman's page. Don't protect this guy because he is known to call you and ask you to take things down and you have even censored comments about him, but the public needs to know how immature this fire chief is.
What is sad is the fact that that paid fireman is a ranking Assistant Chief in the Salisbury Fire Department. What is even sadder is the fact that our Mayor is Facebook friends of this Assistant Chief and "Liking" his childish jokes, pictures and memes.
Another sad event is the fact that the Vice President of the Salisbury City Council is also Facebook Friends with this paid assistant fire chief and he is also "Liking" these childish comments. Not only that you have Vice President Muir Boda liking and making comments and participating in this childish behavior.
Another participant in this childish behavior is the wife of the Salisbury Fire Department's paid Deputy Fire Chief. Deputy Chief John Tull's wife, who's name is Beverly is also "Liking" these childish comments about the Volunteers at Station #1. Another fact is that this same individual, Beverly Tull is an employee of the Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver. Beverly Tull works for the Planning and Zoning Department of Wicomico County. She is also involved in code enforcement and the Secretary of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Other participants include Rob Frampton who is a paid Fire Captain with the Salisbury Fire Department and an aspiring Fire Chief. He is sucking up to Jake Day in hopes that he will get hired by Jake Day as your next Salisbury Fire Chief.
Countless other participants in this childish Social Media behavior against the Volunteers of the Salisbury Fire Department, Station #1 are many of the paid firemen of the Salisbury Fire Department.
The City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Fire Department is supposed to have a strict Social Media policy.
Funny how that doesn't apply to the Salisbury Mayor Jake Day, Salisbury City Council Vice President Muir Boda, Salisbury Assistant Fire Chief Bryan Records, Salisbury Fire Captain and Paramedic Rob Frampton, Wicomico County P&Z Secretary Beverly Tull(wife of paid Salisbury Deputy Chief John Tull) and numerous other paid firemen. There were also childish comments by a few Worcester County Sheriff's Deputies.
Very childish and immature of Salisbury Mayor Jake Day and Salisbury City Council President Muir Boda I would say!

Bryan Records has been posting on here about Jeff Simpson in the past and then on Rick Hoppes, but now he loves Hoppes all of a sudden when it comes to his job security. Never trust a Records. They were very instrumental in ousting Chief Pinky Higgins, ask Stevie's ex wife.

It's a shame that everyone knows about these 2 clowns that are fire officers in the Salisbury Fire Department. They are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the City taxpayers and the fire service in general. Two of the most low life people to ever serve and there are some people that idolize these clowns. If you think the majority of the comments "bashing the paid firemen" from the station 1 volunteers you are sadly mistaken. I know for a fact that many of them are coming from current firefighters both volunteer and career, current EMS professionals, past firefighters both volunteer and career, wives, parents, siblings, citizens, mutual aid volunteers, etc. The majority of the public that knows Richard A. Hoppes, John Tull, Darrin Scott and the renegade fire officers under their command are lying, immature cretins.
Yes many people know that Bryan Records was the Mole of the Salisbury Fire Department and ratted out good people and JT ratted Records out on that other blog. Now the funny thing is, is Records and JT are FB buddies and ragging on Joe on Records FB page as if Records is the most popular person in the fire service. Proves that Bryan Records is a lying, back stabbing low life.
So what if a group of dedicated volunteers want to regroup and relocate and provide committed services to the citizens of Wicomico County for FREE!. What is the problem with that? Nothing. Rick Hoppes and Jake Day are scared to death they will be successful and the City would lose all that funding from the State and County as well as future grants. Then they would get stuck with paid firemen that the City can't afford.
Then what if the volunteers at Station 2 decided to do the same thing and separate from the city and create a new volunteer station.
And following them the volunteers of Station 16 would do the same and then ALL of the fire district in the county covered by the paid firemen from the Salisbury Fire Department is lost and the total call volume is cut in half. Then what? What are they going to do with all them paid firemen with hardly any calls to respond on?
It's called Job Security ladies and gentleman. It would be a complete collapse of the fire service that the Salisbury Fire Department once knew. Something that Hoppes, Jake Day and the paid firemen don't want and can't afford. It would ultimately prove that the paid firemen really aren't needed.

All of the other County Fire Departments are Volunteer. Some have a paid paramedics but still rely on the Volunteers to drive. I was honored to volunteer as a fire fighter/paramedic for 13 years in the County and never expected anything from anyone or did not have the "macho/God" attitudes of the paid crews in Salisbury.
Paid or Volunteer they all have the same training!!
Most of Station 1 territory is already in the County. I do not know of any fire department who would refuse mutual aid to their brothers in need. It's not about the firemen/EMS; it's about saving lives and property.

This is a true statement and the paramedics in Salisbury do have a ParaGod attitude, but they are really some of the worst paramedics on the Eastern Shore. The best paramedics have been forced out or left because of Hoppes.

The biggest "Fat a$$" in this whole mess is the one and only lazy fire chief. Joe you should post a photo of this fat lazy slob.
As a firefighter/EMT I want to let the public know that Rick Hoppes is trying to get the career firefighters, Paramedics and volunteers to contact people we know in the county fire district covered by Station 1 and fill their ears with scare tactics and lies about the Station 1 volunteers. This is something that I feel you should be posting as a comment worthy of a post so that the people know what Hoppes and his Clown Staff are doing to us.
Hoppes, Tull, Scott, Gladwell, Obarsky, Records, Day etc. The Keyboard Cowboys have gone right down the line ranting each day bout a different person. You can have whatever opinion you want, but all those people are proven leaders with the credentials to back them up. These men are tasked with the responsibility to lead the department and that obviously upsets some of you. The city has one mission and Station 1 has another and that's where the rift is. I don't blame either one of those men for standing up for the department they represent. The truth is that neither side really wants to be at war. Many of the members involved have known and served with each other for years. In this game as in war there are no real winners and friendships unfortunately end or at the least become strained. I know most of the leaders on both sides of this conflict and it upsets me to see this go on. They are all great men and the one common denominator is their love for their respective department. Regardless of the out come, I hope everyone will take a deep breath and settle down. Resolve the issues and serve the public.

Bryan tells it like it is and that ruffles the feathers of the enemy. I have known him my whole life and never known him to lie. Don't expect him to back down from any fight.

It's not going to happen. The childish actions of Jake Day and Muir Boda on Bryan Records childish Facebook posts Heckling the Station 1 Volunteers. The Vollies at Station 1 aren't going back and that is exactly what Hoppes, Tull and Darrin Scott have been wanting. The entire culture of the Salisbury Fire Department Career Division has been wanting this as well because that is the learned culture from Hoppes, Tull and Scott.
The way that Rick Hoppes, John Tull, Darrin Scott and Bryan Records called the police on the Station 1 volunteers for no reason. Then Darrin Scott comes flying up there to Station 1 very intoxicated and started yelling at the voluteers telling them to leave the the property. The on duty ambulance crews and duty crews started heckling the volunteers. Darrin Scott was drunk on his ass and the Salisbury Police on scene refused to do a breathalizer on him before they let him drive off. There is a serious problem there.
The leadership in the Salisbury Fire Department needs to be replaced and not by someone currently in house. They all have been indoctrinated to hate volunteers.
Jake Day and Muir Boda need to resign from the Salisbury Fire Department. Their actions prove they are incapable of leading. GROW UP!

You are correct about the names mentioned. They are nothing but losers who don't like the volunteers and are making most of the comments on here. They hate the volunteers and will do anything to make a full career department at all the Stations. There are no volunteers at Station 16 worth depending on to get the apparatus out.
Currently there aren't any volunteers at Station 2 that are worth depending on to get the apparatus out. The Coffee Club isn't taking the apparatus out so what they have left is the Career people taking over. Just what the ones above mentioned want.

Bryan Records has no business getting involved in any of this so your purpose of defending him to make him look like a hero is invalidated. This isn't his fight and it isn't his job to ruffle the feathers of the enemy. His actions on Social Media are enough to get him fired and a real chief would have fired him. Bryan Records is a paid Assistant Chief in the Salisbury Fire Department and his actions prove that he is to incompetent to lead. His stalking of the "enemy" is going to get him arrested. I think that everyone needs to take a step back and consider what the true mission of the fire service is...to protect the life and property of the people of Salisbury. This argument has nothing to do with volunteers or paid staff, this has to do with some rouge members of station 1 that do not want to follow rules, regulations and chain of command. Let's face it, all organizations have a chain of command, and just because you do not like the order or rule does not give you the right to just run away.
I seriously question the true motives of Station 1 volunteers as if they were truly committed to mission of the fire service they would not fail on over 50% of their calls. I do not want to live in an area where the station is only coming to my house 50% of the time. I would say to station 1 volunteers, perform and meet metrics and then come talking to the county and city about changes you may want.
Joe, I wish you would take this post down. It is terrible to read so many comments about certain people that are just lies. I have no idea who these comments are from, but I have a feeling that I am older than the majority of them. I have been around long enough to watch a lot of these volunteer and paid firemen since they were born. I am definitely "old school" and it saddens me to see a lot of the younger ones (and a few older) thinking more about themselves than working together. I also know that there are older ones that respect you Joe. But, when I read some of the comments, like ones that are on this post, and know that they are lies, it does make me mad at you, for showing them. That doesn't mean that I don't like or respect you. I liked you the first time I met you. I still do to this day. It is just the mean comments that are not true, that hurt people like me.
I would like to think the county will stand behind these volunteers just like there suppose to. John and Jake are friends and I think that's going to play a damper in this . It's the county's job to support these individuals as they are already a fire company. This county council will be replaced if they choose not to do so.
A little off topic, but is there an ARFF unit quartered at the airport now?
And there are plenty of volunteers that would be and are grateful to receive training provided by career folks. In fact, there are a lot of volunteers that do so that they can become career firefighters. It's a breeding ground for potential career firefighters in some cases..
Can I ask what is the career staffing levels at all three stations? Are they just an Engine and Medic compliment or is there enough to staff a special service ?
