A Viewer Writes: Eastern Shore Secession to Delaware

Joe,

I had an idea. What if the residents of the counties on the shore in Maryland were to secede and become part of Delaware? If so, with the help from the Delaware republicans, I think we would have enough republican votes to override Wilmingtons democrats and we could have a red state! And, lets see how Maryland would like losing all the tax revenue from Ocean city! Maybe then redistricting would be taken seriously and more than Baltimores vote would count! Just an idea...

It would take a lot of working out, but the scare factors would be enormous.
Annapolis, we are NOT the metro area, nor are we your cross-eyed cousins. A little respect, please!

Like the idea.

Sounds like you need to be taking your meds.....

There's been talk about that for years and it makes perfect sense. As Marylanders we receive no representation and plenty of taxation. Unfortunately it will never happen because Maryland will never let go of the tax cash cow known as Ocean City. Of course everyone knows that all of the tax dollars from OC goes to support the western shore.

been tried more than once

just a pipe dream

Sounds like you have been in a hole for years. God only know how many time this suggestion has come up over the last 250 years. - MD/DE, MD/VA, MD/VA.DE, Delmarva Peninsula, The state of Delmarva, etc. Ain't goin' happen, but I love the idea.

Like it was stated there has been several attempts in the past which has failed. I would love to see it happen not only to have a lower tax basis but to punish Annapolis from ignoring rural MD by giving us no representation for our taxes. We are associated more with the Eastern Shore of VA and Delaware than we are with the progressive / liberal Western Shore, i.e. Baltimore, Annapolis and DC suburbs.

Where do I sign up for that? Maybe we can get Wilmington to secede and join Jersey or Philly. They are all one and the same.

Hogan probably wouldn't care. He has not batted an eye at us anyway. Lies n lies is all. Schmucks applauded his highway mumbo without realizing it only helps Delaware at the finish line when 404 is fixed. Jobs created on the mountains. Under armour whoppdedoo! He would sign off on it in a minute!

LOL love the idea? This place is already a crap hole and you think it would survive on its own? Did anyone ask what Delaware thought, because I am betting their answer is a no.

It's a great idea, and has been discussed for years and years. Unfortunately, the new state won't be a red state....Delaware is just as blue as Maryland metro. I'd love to see it happen, but the western shore would fight to keep the beach and the Libtards would prevent anything like that to happen. In the meantime, just move to Delaware. I did and it's the best move I've ever made.

Maybe you could just move somewhere that has a government that you like.

This very idea has been discussed for almost a hundred years. In the 1930's there was a movement back then to separate from Maryland and merge with Delaware. Also when Shaffer was governor. I signed the petition back in the nineties and was immediately audited by the controllers office in Maryland for a tax audit!!
I don't think this was a coincidence! It makes perfect sense geographically and politically to leave. Western Maryland as well. They also petitioned to leave Maryland and join West Virginia or Virginia due to lack of representation.
Maybe Maryland can make up for the lost of these territories by annexing the District of Columbia. Politically they would be more in line with the liberal Baltimore/Washington corridor.

I am in favor of a Del-Mar-Va state. It would be great to get VA's gun laws and DE's lower taxes.

Hey jerk wad...if it's so bad for you then leave.

We would be better off with Virginia.

What makes you think we Delawareans want your Maryland eastern shore trash?

I have plead the case before the entire Wicomico County Council a little over a year ago - pleading for them to try and make the break. I even offered to help lobby Worcester, Somerset, Talbot, Queen Anne's, Caroline, & Dorchester.

Not just for Marylanders. I would imagine the Eastern Shore of Virginia has had it worse than us.
