Week Three: A Visit From Champions

A Visit from Champions

The third week has proven to be busy as the hustle and bustle of bill hearings has begun in committees. I serve on the Environment and Transportation Committee and our hearings began on Wednesday. It is good to get back in the swing of things as the session continues to pick up speed.

The week began with the grand opening of the Comptroller's Call Center in Salisbury. I attended the ribbon cutting at the new call center which is located in the Sea Gull Square retail complex. The Comptroller Call Center is the agency’s first remote call center, it adds 25 local jobs, and assists taxpayers during tax season.

You can obtain free Maryland income tax assistance in person or over the phone by contacting Taxpayer Service at 1-800-MD-TAXES (1-800-638-2937), or in person. Assistance is available 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. They will prepare your Maryland tax return and even electronically transmit it
for you free of charge. No appointment is necessary but you must bring your completed federal return, all W-2 statements and supporting documents (such as 1099 statements, etc.) and a picture ID with you to take advantage of this service.

On Tuesday, I met with members of the Coastal Association of Realtors. I enjoyed seeing some friends from the district and speaking about upcoming legislation regarding
realtyon the Eastern Shore.
Gulls in Annapolis
Wednesday brought me the honor of hosting the Champion Salisbury University Men’s Lacrosse team. Their day started with a visit from Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot who presented them with a Governor’s Citation honoring their title. We welcomed them on both the House and Senate floors to honor their victory with fellow members of the General Assembly.

Education in Focus
I joined Superintendent Donna Hanlin in focusing on education projects at this week's Board of Public Works meeting. These projects include facility improvements for Wi-Middle, Parkside High School, and Delmar Elementary as well as the replacement of West Salisbury Elementary. It is my priority to ensure that our schools and our students receive the attention they so deserve.
While I attended this meeting, my Legislative Aide Brittany attended a meeting with Senator Mathias, Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver, Director of the Administration Wayne Strausburg, and Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development Director Dave Ryan to discuss proposed legislation along with current issues in Wicomico County.

The week concluded with the Eastern Shore Delegation meeting where we welcomed representatives from the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

As always, if you would like to contact us with an idea, issue, or concern,
please either call: 410-841-3431 or email carl.anderton@house.state.md.us.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you, Carl! It's so nice to get a report from the Big House across the bay! Not many representatives take the time to do this, and we want you to know how much we appreciate it.

25 more tax payer funded jobs? How about 25 more private company jobs. The government just keeps getting bigger and bigger and tax and spend idiots like you think it's just great.
