Rising pension costs a growing problem in budget-weary Fairfax County

Washington Post - there is an article about how Fairfax County Virginia officials are very concerned over their run-a-way pension costs - as it 's consuming a larger and larger portion of their fiscal budgets. Now - expecting a budget crisis being manifested by rising pension cost - they are looking for ways to dramatically cut pension costs.

This is a much bigger national concern than one can imagine because - if Fairfax County is in financial trouble and can't make it - (located right inside or along the 495 Washington cooridor) - can you imagine the financial implications for other America districts - like Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Talbot etc?

Plus - it is being reported by a very liberal run newspaper organization - the Washington Post. Quite frankly - I am surprised they even ran the story, so it must have them really alarmed.

Excerpt from the article:

'Yet with tax revenue failing to keep up with increasing demand for government services and Fairfax supervisors unwilling to raise property taxes after increasing them last year by an average $304 per household, the county is faced with hard spending choices.'

I see where they raised their property tax an average of $304 and are still having troubles in dealing with the shortfall. And Fairfax is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation. They are also going to have to make some real tough decisions on their fiscal spending, education, public works, road infrastructure or they'll end up like Baltimore. Essentially, Baltimore is already bankrupt and the status quo city council & Mayor are in a state of denial. Soon, they are either going to have shut down some streets and block them off, or they are going to have to close a significant portion of the city as by most standards - it is uninhabitable.

That county is suppose to have a bullet proof economy. Located adjacent to Washington & McClean Va. and still experiencing economic problems? What gives?

Apples and oranges. Check what average county employees make there, how much the BOE spends there, and how many employees they're are. They have all paid firemen, and almost twice as many county cops per capita.

Stop supporting illegal aliens and nare do well bums, cut all county office budgets by 10%, get rid of about half of county cars and hundreds of other things and they will be just fine. The biggest thing they could do is to vote in a very conservative county council.
