Federal laws could make dealing with legal marijuana in Maryland difficult

A tidal wave of marijuana legalization washed over the country on Nov. 8.

When all the votes were counted, four states approved new or expanded medical marijuana laws, while another four went further, approving initiatives for recreational use of marijuana.

Medical marijuana is now legal in 28 states and Washington, D.C. — including Maryland — and nine of those have now legalized recreational possession, sale and use as well.

But all of these state law developments obscure a deeper problem: marijuana remains a Schedule 1 controlled substance under federal law. And serious federal penalties can still be imposed for its possession, sale or use.

That's because since 1930 big pharma and racist government policy has ruled the roost. The Schedule 1 designation was wrong from the start.

and the feds don't have the manpower to enforce most of their laws including this one. they rely on state, county and local agencies to enforce asinine laws like this one. now they have even put CBD oil on the same list as pot, and the oil has NO THC. buttholes to the max.

AG Sessions hates pot.

Mathias problem?

Just as in elections, the will of the states will rule in the end and the fed will silently acknowledge that the War on Drugs was a mistake and is an utter and ridiculous failure.

Pot is bad news and should be illegal. Pendulum about to swing back- deal with it.

I'm growing it in my yard. If Maryland wants to prosecute that, F them. I am a free man.

BS. Just watch.

They intentionally make the rules impossible to understand so that their "inside guy" gets the monopoly while everyone else is still scratching their heads trying to decode the law. At the same time you have countless, mainly black, people in prison for what they are making legal and profiting from.
It's a d@#$ plant straight out of the ground and if you have no experience with it you have no room to talk. The effects are far less than alcohol. I have never woken up in the morning and said "I can't believe I did 'X'. I was way too stoned". Marijuana doesn't impare your judgement at all and your reaction time is affected far less than with alcohol. You can overdose on alcohol, you can overdose on caffeine, a Marijuana overdose would be equivalent to smoking your own weights worth in 15 minutes.
The effects of Marijuana on our society are far less damaging than the effects of our criminalization of Marijuana on society.

Poison ivy is a plant- go smoke some of that.

The whole "it's just a plant" argument is asinine. Heroin is derived from the opium poppy plant and we know the scourge heroin has had on society.

Part of the real problem with the legalization of marijuana is the greatly varying degrees of potency (THC levels). One batch can be mild while another can make you think you are Jack climbing a beanstock. It can be hallucinogenic.

Stoners can't make it through one day sober. They are unable to cope, unlike normal human beings. They don't like to acknowledge their addiction. They are weak. Hopefully they will all fall prey to Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome. It's on the rise.

Go frolic in sticker bushes stoners- they are plants too.

More Eastern shore ignorance.By the time medical pot is legal here, everyone who could use it now will be dead.Figures, other states are on it but Maryland is last as always.

10:48 PM who said this:

Are you dumb deaf for stupid??? A lot of stuff comes from plants, the difference here with weed versus Heroin is, you have to add and break down the Heroin plant and with wee, you put a seed in the ground and you watch it grow, when it is done you dry it out and smoke it... You don't add anything to it, nothing is altered like Heroin is or cocaine or poppy...

That is how stupid you people actually are, you have done no research as usual, you knwo nothing of what you speak, as usual, and i'm sure you never even sampled it... As the one poster forgot to mention, the reason why it is illegal, is becasue of all the products I can make form the weed plant and it can be all natural... The govt doesn't want me to have a medicine for headaches, cancer and pain, they don't want me to make bio-fuels or rope or clothes, or soaps and shampoos or food... There are 24 different things you can make out of just one weed plant, can you do that with the heron or cocaine plant? no!!!! you can't!!!

I wish you stupid people would STFU and learn something before running your mouth on something you know nothing about... Furthermore, are you saying becasue pot is legal now in some states, that people who don't smoke pot will start to smoke pot???? NOT HARDLY!!!! People whom don't smoke now, will continue not to smoke later even if it is legal... And who the fuck are you to tell me or anyone else what to do with my life or body? Is it alright for me to slap the shit out of you for being stupid and then poke you with a toothpick just becasue I feel I should? NO of course not, so who the fuck are you to tell me what to do?

When's the last time anyone even saw a Federal Agent? Not many of us will ever see one in our neighborhood. They certainly don't go around looking for medical, or recreational, users of marijuana, unless the user is on federal land. Schedule 1 classification is becoming more meaningless every time another state signs on to medical, or recreational, legalization of marijuana. We are getting close to the point where the federal government will have no choice but to change the classification, just like what happened with prohibition. History is repeating itself.

*******************************************************************

How is that a "problem"? Alcohol also has varying degrees of potency, and it is clearly marked on the label. In states that have already legalized marijuana, the THC content is also clearly marked. With legalization, what you buy is is much more consistent than what you get with street sales. The "problem" you describe goes away with legalization.

You are OBVIOUSLY clueless. Either you don't know a "stoner", or you are just stereotyping everyone who smokes pot based on one that you know, or some old Cheeech and Chong movie. "Stoners" are all around you, every day, and you can't even tell, based on your comment.

You deal with it. Legalization is coming like a steamroller to a state dispensary near you, in the near future, if you live in Maryland, or in any of the other states that have already legalized pot.
