US weather to see series of cold blasts hit in the next week

Winter already has America in its grasp, but things will soon get even chillier as a series of cold waves wash over the central and eastern US in the next week, dragging temperatures below zero.

Residents from the northern and central plains to the Midwest - some of whom have already endured heavy snowfall - can expect temperatures to be 5F to 20F lower than this week, thanks to a major push of Arctic air.

'The air mass on the way for the middle of December is likely to be substantially colder, when compared to that of this past week and this weekend,' AccuWeather lead long-range meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.

The news came the same day as the I-75 was shut down in Michigan after 40 cars and three semis were involved in a pile-up caused by icy conditions.

Gotta love that global warming!

Just like short-term changes in weather can be dramatic and are not man-made, maybe long-term climate changes are, as well. In school, we learned the scientific method: create a theory, then prove or disprove it. I am still waiting for the scientific community to PROVE that man-made activities are the cause for recent global warming. I get the theory, but I have not seen it proven yet. I believe in climate change- it is warmer than when I was a kid- but are cow farts the reason?? Maybe the ocean currents change every 20 years, and that's the reason. Who knows? Can a global scientist chime in on this?
And, if most of the frozen water is in the caps and is floating, why would melting them cause sea levels to rise? My drink doesn't overflow when the ice melts. SMH

All the sea ice around the North Pole could melt tomorrow and it would not raise the sea level one millimeter. It's simple physics! Now ice caps over terra firma is a different story but it's not as bad as the alarmists think.

Didn't an ice age scar the US and make the mountains and rivers? Then the ice melted away.
