CareFirst awards $575,000 to support West Baltimore initiatives
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield awarded $575,000 to five nonprofits at an event Monday morning in West Baltimore, adding to previous donations the insurer has made to the community since last year's unrest.
The funds will support organizations CareFirst has worked with previously, such as Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Health Care for the Homeless, the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation. The money will be used to help fund the nonprofits' services in West Baltimore, as well as a new partner organization, Penn North Recovery Center.
The health-related aid is the latest round of donations CareFirst has made to West Baltimore, an area that has seen a rise in fresh funding and new initiatives following the April 2015 unrest. CareFirst alone has donated almost $800,000 to West Baltimore in the time since.

So my payments of $12,000 per year are really helping out?
Thanks Care First.
But next time, I would love to have the opportunity to make the donation MYSELF!
Money to support the "UNREST". Sorry folks, they are called riots that were encouraged by the mayor.
West Baltimore is a worthless ghetto. It has many pod the homicides, most of the people are felons, welfare hogs and uneducated riff raff. You could throw a billion at that and nothing will get better until the people get tired of living like slobs there.
Maybe they could take 12K of that money and pay for my insurance policy for 2017.
I do not know what gives with Care First newly found graciousness - they have had Maryland locked up for decades. If Trump makes Maryland compete with other locals then Care First is in for a very big surprise come early next year.
And they dumb founded on why people are pissed off at them and their high premiums. If they are making that much that they can donate to bums, gang members and illegals, then they can lower my premiums, co-payments and increase my benefits.
LOL, Delaware and Virginia are sooo close....
Care First needs to lower our rates before giving any money away
575,ooo for victims funeral services?
As they raised my premium 65% for next year... Sorry, not impressed with them gouging people for premium $$, and then giving it away.
My rates go up 20% and they give away half a mil. Unreal. Open the state lines me trump.
guess thats why premiums have risen 30%
