It abdolutely time for WI middle and high school

Maybe their employees should pay for them!

What about choices being moved to Long avenue? Wi Middle is going to be the new location for students from the cambridge facility closing? How about building place to send students that are out of lock up ?

Highly doubtful. Its taken almost 80 years of existence at Mardela High just to now get a track.

Some commenters are just complete Idiots. While I've been rejecting some of them, DO YOU PEOPLE ACTUALLY GET THIS?

Wicomico County is not Montgomery County. You cannot afford to schedule and build a new school every two years.

The Libtards are out of control and Thank God Trump is going to lead the way in stopping this ridiculous crap. You want new and fancy schools, move to Montgomery County where they're loaded with Muslim students and transplants.

I hope we have leaders in our county that sees this as laughable and out of the question. Leaders are you there??? If so, speak up now.

When does the new elected school board start?

But...but...we have loads of money in this county! Truth? We have no growth, and no potential for growth! I was told by a local business man of the negative values of real estate in this county...worst in the state.

What is closing in Cambridge that they are moving?

I think that we should do major renovations and additions to schools... The county wanted to build consolidate there prek-2 and 3-5 schools into one building instead of having 2 schools per district. They have plans to close wicomico middle to other middle schools in the County due to it's not a populated school... Pittsville Elementary will be the new middle school. There goal was to close, wi middle, east salisbury,Westside primary and possibly Pinehurst and send them other new schools... The cost to operate those schools I listed is getting high. I think think building brand new schools would be to expensive. Like look at prince street school they did a major renovation and addition to the school and it looks like it's newly built... That I think that's what they should be doing. The schools they want to built new are west salisbury, Glen Avenue, beaver run, Fruitland Primary and possibly Westside Intermediate. I think they should do redistricting of the high schools because there at seats available at bennett and wi high that equals the amount of kids that are at the overcrowded parkside high. I think they should consider balancing enrollments from facilitates first and then consider what schools need additions or new building. Not just built schools and then redistrict and find out that you have less kids then expected or to much kids. Back to referring to prince street... The school is built to hold 560 students but now there holding 660 students... You see the BOE did the construction and not consider or try to adjust district enrollment lines. Now the school is overcapacity and there complaining about it. There thought process is all backwards. You see I'm an junior at parkside and would love to serve on the local school board... I know the elections are in November 2018... I just don't know what the age requirements are... Does anyone know is 18 + or 21+. We need change on how we do things!!!! Tired seeing stuff going backwards due to lack of common sense..

Whatever is done, one of the major things that has to happen is to rework one of the larger, older schools that is NOT air conditioned to have lockdown classrooms and overnight facilities for the large number of "students" who really are in school to be disruptive. This will give a place for the non-compliant (and one of my 3 was one of them) to stay in school and not distract those who WANT to learn.

And, no, the BOE already gets more than 50% of the tax base, and that should be reduced dramatically. Throwing money at the problems has obviously failed to solve the problems, whether in new or old buildings. It's the management is where the problems are.

Waiting for 2018!

Well get the trash and special permissions out of parkside and back to their home schools and it won't be overcrowded.

Show us that the graduation rate and grades are better because of the new schools that have been built in the last five years and we'll talk. Otherwise, fix what you have and we'll talk about your ideas.

WHY is the BOE still in power? WHY has the BOE not been disbanded? WHY do you people allow this BS to continue? HOW can you people pay for this crap? WHAT has to happen to get you people to wake up? HOW many chickens will have to be processed, burgers flipped, bandages applied, cups of coffee sold? WHY are you people so dumb?

These school buildings we have/had could be (have been) renovated for a lot less than what was spent if the BOE had kept up with proper maintenance and timely upgrades. Instead our tax dollars were spent on failed programs, inflated salaries, useless redundant office positions and other wasteful 'projects'. I firmly believe the maintenance was let go on purpose to make the cost of proper repair or upgrade to existing infrastructure so costly that a new facility was not 'that much more' especially when it is not your monies you are spending with no oversight or accountability for what they, the BOE, do.
If the local BOE had been a corporation they would have been in bankruptcy long ago, but so long and you have the bottomless pockets of the tax paying citizenry to pick, all in the name of 'for the children', you can be as wasteful and reckless as you want with your expenditures. A perfect example of letting regular maintenance go is the Bennett auditorium and it flooding, it was built below ground level and would need a sump pump system but let it fail because 'we' want to build a new one and what better way to get it than to let it flood out and be destroyed by water damage? The building should have never been built below grade to begin with, as anyone who has lived here long enough knows that basements in homes is rare around here because they always flood, a lack of common sense when that building was built. As I watched them build it while I was in high school I knew then it was only a matter of time before it would become a swimming pool, I did not need an engineering degree to know this , just common sense!

Dear Readers,

There was a time that coming to Salisbury for a day of shopping and lunch/dinner was a real treat from just about anyplace on the shore. The residents at that time were quite friendly, and I recall this to be a refreshing change of pace. However, that is indeed not the case now, and for the current WCBOE to suggest a 'New Every Two" plan is ludicrous. There is neither the tax base nor funding to support this, and citizens are leaving the county in record droves, further depleting the county rolls. The WCBOE would be wise to tighten their belts and deal with repairing what they currently have.

While I do not doubt that several facilities are in need of renovation/replacement, there simply are not the funds to do so until the economy recovers.

Respectfully,

Paladin

Who the hell wants to go to WI-HI. I don't blame the kids wanting special permission.

1009

We sought special permission to PHS only to be told they do not give it unless it is a child of a teacher or staff. We all know that is a lie. That being said, 2 of my children are at Wi Hi and really like it. They are successful have many friends, play sports etc. In the past 3 years, no one has been raped there, racial fights with baseball bats do not happen. Now, fights happen, but they do everywhere.

My children's' classroom sizes are small and they learn. It is NOT crowded like Bennett or PHS. The teachers are great, office staff courteous, admins are honest if asked a question.

They only concern I have heard is that they changed the SRO.

A facility in Cambridge that houses criminal kids is closing and those unpredictable and dangerous students are being moved to the counties they are from. Wi Middle has 1 with 4 more coming, and can accept 8. They are in the portables and cannot be brought into the school because they are dangerous kids. By the way there is only one deputy in that school so it's a matter of time till someone gets hurt by these students.
Parents are totally unaware of this situation.
