Sen. Barbara Mikulski Passes Torch To Sen.-Elect Van Hollen, Calls For Trump To Reach Out

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) — It was a big night for congressman Chris Van Hollen. Who easily won a spot in the U.S. Senate.

Looking forward, he says he’s focused on Maryland’s priorities.

Senator-elect Van Hollen today called for unity, but says it all starts with the White House. As Senator Barbara Mikulski ends her run in Washington, she passes the torch to congressman Chris Van Hollen.

The hot topic of Wednesday’s breakfast meeting with Senator Ben Cardin was new leadership in the White House.

Sen.-elect Chris Van Hollen says President-elect Donald Trump has “a great burden” to reach out to Democrats after running an “incredibly divisive campaign.”

Bad start. The money flows OUT from Washington, not the other way around. It's Hollen who should be reaching out but I guess he's just another average Maryland politician.

Maybe Senator-elect Van Hollen if you or someone else had told that to the current occupant of the White House you wouldn't be in the position you find yourselves in today. You hypocrites reap what you sow. Hopefully Trump and the Republicans turn back every one of BO's so called achievements of the last 8 years and then pack the Supreme Court with strict constitutionalists.

11:33 thank you!

I think Van Hollen should be reaching out for help. After all he represents the looser side.

I do believe Senator-elect Van Hollen has it all wrong. HE needs to reach out to President-elect Trump. Playing 'nice' begins with all of the 'people' who played 'ugly' during the campaign.

No Van Holden, you need to reach out.

Mr. Van Hollen, the "divisive" campaign was mirrored by Clinton's, and, in her case, burdened by a truckload (think tractor trailer - the ones that pull two trailers) of dirty baggage spilling out the Clintons' dirty laundry.
As for reaching out, the task is shared. Unity of purpose is what's needed, nothing else. Changes are going to be proposed that you will undoubtedly feel are not in keeping with your party's agenda. Perhaps that agenda needs a fresh look and an adjustment to do what's best to move this nation to demonstrable improvement, not just the rhetoric and views of skewed data that have been our steady eight year diet.

It's almost humorous how the dems are only interested in 'unity' and 'working together' when they are on the losing side of the deal.

But back when they had power and decided to jam Obamacare up our tailpipe they told the other side to pound sand and locked them out in the hallway.

One BIG thing the Republicans need to remember: WE won, not the dems. And no matter what you do, you will not satisfy them. They will fuss, complain and demand.

"Elections have consequences." -- B. Obama

Republicans: STOP WORRYING about hurting somebody's fragile feelings and do the job we sent you up there to do.

GET IT DONE this time!!

what time do the riots begin tonight

Screw Van Hollen and the donkey he rode in on. I am sick of hearing these democrat morons saying Trump needs to reach out to them. I personally want to see some unity and both sides need to do some reaching out. However, if these jackasses keep demanding Trump to reach out he should - like Darth Vader reaches out!!

President elect Trump is in office to get something done unlike democrats who will try to hinder any progress especially if it's good.

Democrat's are such a large group of different folks.I have a idea why the good governor shunned Mr. Trump and have been delighted he is own republican governor. But, we should keep a eye on him after that decision. President - Elect is a higher office than governor.

Prayers continue for Hogan Strong!

Screw the democrats(and the rinos) like Trump said to the winner go the spoils.

Where are all those women votes that wanted to elect Hillary. Why didn't they vote for a women. Now Maryland is left with no women to represent them.

Hillary's campaign paid people to search for all the dirt they could find on Trump and then spent millions of $$ to advertise it in negative ads. They proved to also be divisive and should be the ones to reach out to Trump, since he and Republicans have the upper hand.

Van Holland has never reached out to anyone. He is another Obama / Mikulski. He is another clown con - artist. He only won because he got millions from DC and out of State money. He refused to accept any correspondence from anyone not in his district before. Guess what he will be hearing from me now since he will be taking the oath to represent all Maryland in his district in which the Eastern Shore is. The only time you seen Mikulski is when she need your vote. She did more for the Eastern Shore of VA than she did for the Eastern Shore of MD.
