WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - After more than 35 years in a psychiatric hospital, John W. Hinckley Jr. - who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan - will walk free.
A federal judge ruled Wednesday he is no longer a danger to himself or others.
The 61-year-old will be released as soon as August 5 to his mother in Virginia with a number of monitoring requirements.
Hinckley Jr. attempted to kill Reagan and shot three people outside the Washington Hilton in March 1981.

Loony left waited until Mrs. Reagan died before releasing someone who deserves death sentence. Ridiculous. ππ»ππ»ππ»
He's still nuts, make no mistake.
Also should release Sirhan Sirhan, Charlie Manson, Squeaky Frome, all have been in way to long.
A 61 YOA male released to the custody of his mother. Lol If he need a number of monitoring requirements, keep him housed at his current residence and have correctional officers continue monitoring the scum.
Setting him free as Trump gains in the polls... coincidence?
Squeaky was released from prison in 2009. She's living in rural Upstate NY, not far from Syracuse.
I'm sure that either our current POTUS or the future POTUS (HILLIARY will pardon the man. After all, he didn't "intend" to kill President Reagon.
He will be leaving with his mother. How old is his mother, roughly 80 years old, give or take? What happens to him when she dies? Who will be accountable for him then? How is he going to care for himself? What will he use for income? Surely not social security, he hadn't contributed to social security in 35 years so there is nothing there for him. I know, I know, social security will give him $1400/month, just like the illegals that have NEVER contributed to the program and yet received money from legitimate tax payers.
how much has the taxpayer had to pay over the last 35 years to keep this pos alive? electricity is cheaper!
The only reason is because Reagan was a Republican...This is what the left calls a micro-Aggression towards Donald Trump.
