The wait is finally over. On Sunday, the White House announced that eldest daughter Malia Obama will attend Harvard University
But the Sidwell Friends senior, 17, will not be heading to Cambridge, Mass. this coming fall.
“Malia will take a gap year before beginning school,” read the statement from President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama released late Sunday morning by the East Wing. This means Malia will not attend Harvard until the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021.
Don’t you feel old?
In September, President Obama shared some advice he had given college-bound Malia: Don’t worry too much about which school you choose — advice that the rest of the world has completely ignored.

Don't worry about which school you choose? POTUS says as his oldest is going to one of the top Ivy League schools. OK - Then let's see her attend SU or UMES! Just like everything else he says, it's a load of malarky.
Wonder if she will enroll as a foreign student, and her college records will be sealed?
Good for her.
Not long ago, taking a "Gap Year" was simply taking some remedial courses to bring your GPA up to required admission standards. The family took so many vacations, I don't know how there was time for their studies.
Many affluent (means rich) students take a year off between HS and University. They travel and gain knowledge that can't be taught in a classroom. In this case, she has had more of those experiences than most. Here is what will make you blow a gasket, we have to pay for secret service protection for her.
Her grades and PERSONAL (not manufactured spoon fed) "accomplishments" are that good?
It's yet again, black privilege.
