Los Angeles Police officer Tony Im told the Associated Press that Shandling died Thursday in Los Angeles. Im said officers were dispatched to Shandling's home Thursday for a reported medical emergency. Shandling was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
I did not have any details on when the call was placed or what the nature of the emergency was. He said police will conduct a death investigation.

849. They do respond to some, like suspicious circumstances, suspected overdoses, suicides and unattended deaths.
He always looked to me to be on the edge of a heart attack or stroke.
