Black Milwaukee sheriff takes on Black Lives Matter movement

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - David Clarke, the African-American sheriff of Milwaukee County, is a man on a mission - to rebut allegations that U.S. police have been too quick to use deadly force against blacks in a spate of killings from New York to Ferguson, Missouri.

The 38-year law enforcement veteran has become one of the most polarizing black critics of the "Black Lives Matter" movement that grew out of protests against the police killings of unarmed black men, which he describes as anomalies in an otherwise effective criminal justice system.

"My mission right now is defending cops. It's a full-time mission," the 59-year-old, cowboy hat-wearing, sheriff said during a recent interview. "I've got to defend this profession, because no one else is or very few are."

I applaud this sheriff and others who have stood up for law enforcement, there will be a few bad apples in every occupation but we need to support our law enforcement it would be anarchy without them. Those that continue this war on law enforcement, I hope you never have to be in the position you need to call 911 for help, you may re-consider where you would be without them.

Joe,

Recently I attended the funeral of one of Maryland's fallen officers. Sadly in speaking with young officers I could not help but feel the setiment was they are just going to answer calls for service. They feel no matter what they do it iwill be judged by a minority that seems to be getting the majority of the media. You and I both know this is slanted to say the least.

Use of force is and rightfully so a huge topic of discussion among the nations law enforcement leaders. In an attempt to improve the profession does not and should mean that officers abandon the oath they took when they promised to protect citizens.

I can understand the mixed messages these young officers are getting from the media as well as the leadership in their own agencies. Officers are trained in a miriad of scenarios to help enhance their skills in dealing with every type of criminal behavior. Officers each posses a differant levels of judgement and skill. In one scenario an officer would shoot the suspect. In another an officer may go hands on the suspect. There is no absolute right answer. In cases where officers show blatant disreguard for (Graham v. Conner)there is and will be public outcry. One can say what they want but this is no job for sissies.

My Grandfather was a police officer and he stated once "I would rather be judged by 12, then carried by 6" I have to say I would agree with this statement. I have lived by it for the last 27 years and by the grace of God I am still here.

I guess where this going is that no officer should abandon your oath. If you joined this profession to be liked you have surely picked the wrong one. Those that have your six are the people you serve beside every day. Also the millions of people that support and recognize your service daily. The main stream media does not give a voice to these people. There is an agenda and I do not quite understand it.

I will say that any officer that stands mute against an officer that is brutal when making arrest you are in fact part of the problem. The thin blue line of silence should never be confused with the thin blue line of brother and sisterhood. One is honorable and the other makes you a criminal. We have a duty to police ourselves. As we have all seen one bad cop seems to label all of us. Is this fair abosolutley not. It is the equivalent of saying all Black or all White. It just does not fit.

The BLM movement is uneducated and racist at best. We can not give these clowns any ammunition it is obvious they have the media spotlight right now.

Stay strong and keep your oath.
