Less than three years after Amazon increased the minimum purchase threshold from $25 to $35 for customers to qualify for free “Super Saver Shipping,” the world’s largest e-retailer is hiking the minimum purchase requirement again—this time to $49.
The change was made quietly, without any official announcement or press release. Instead, customers noticed it over the weekend, and commenters immediately began lamenting on Reddit about how quickly Amazon’s minimum purchase requirement has increased, and how obvious it is that the policy is a ploy to get even more online shoppers to sign up for Amazon Prime.
Prime has proven to be an enormously powerful and profitable service for Amazon. Subscribers pay $99 per year, and in addition to free streaming videos and music and other services, they are entitled to unlimited, free two-day shipping on most purchases made at Amazon.com.

Prime is an incredible bargin.
Just pay for Prime. I have received free shipping on a large window AC unit, exercise bike, 55" TV, etc. Include the free videos, books, etc and it more than pays for itself.
I have found that ebay can SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your shipping expenses over Amazon and that is why I opt to use them instead.
I shop locally and keep as much money as possible on the Shore.
The problem with Ebay is that you never know when its going to ship. Apparently a seller can wait up to 5 business days before they even ship the package. So even if you pay for next day shipping it might take almost a wk before the product is sent out the door.
Prime not only gives you free shipping but it also is 2 day shipping and as mentioned you have access to a catalog of over 1 million songs, plenty of books, new movie releases and shows.
Ive made over 100 purchases this past year from gun parts to tv's. All shipped free with my Prime membership. If shipping was even as low as $5 for each item I have saved a ton on shipping, and 99% of the time a healthy savings on the product.
I love Prime !!!
