Md. man spends $40k to clear his street for a greater cause

BETHESDA, Md. — A Maryland man spent more than $40,000 to plow his own street, but says his reasons extend beyond his neighborhood.

As retired firefighter Richard Hoye points to what he’s spent on a garage full of equipment including his skid steer, plow and other attachments, he explains it still took him two full days to clear his dead-end street for his neighbors.

“Being a firefighter and being retired, I really have a passion for tools and I don’t get access quite as much. So this is my midlife crisis toy,” he jokes.

But even after the expected melt next week, Hoye says there will be work to do.

BRAVO! Thank you to this man. Chances are that others that live in his neighborhood are retired people who could have needed an ambulance or fire engine. He has the money, he has the time, and most importantly he has the compassion for the needs of others.

During the massive double snow that we received some years ago our neighborhood was 4 days before the first plows got to us. A man down the street who owns a tractor with a blade cleaned enough area for an ambulance or fire engine.

Thank you to all the people in this world who are kind and thoughtful.

Hats off to you!!!

Where I grew up in Maryland, the farmers plowed a lot of the rural roads. They still do. There is no complaining from them. I know at least the farmer on my parents road does not get paid from the state or county, he does it bc it is the right thing to do. The county tried in vain to fine him for years, I guess they gave up.

He will also clear the snow piled in front of the driveways for the elderly. He is amazing.
