These Are The 10 Most Ghetto Cities In Maryland

There are lots of people who throw the term ‘ghetto’ around. But which of Maryland’s largest cities are the most ghetto of all?
How do you decide if a place is ghetto or not? You ask the internet. According to the Urban Dictionary, a ghetto is defined as:
“urban; of or relating to (inner) city life” and “poor; of or relating to the poor life.”
Using that criteria, it’s not hard to scrape the internet, run some scientific data on where ghettos might exist in a state, and then put out a list.
After analyzing the largest cities in the Old Line State, we came up with this list as the most ghetto places to live in Maryland:
  1. Hyattsville
  2. Salisbury
  3. Baltimore
  4. Bladensburg
  5. Cambridge
  6. District Heights
  7. Hagerstown
  8. Suitland
  9. Temple Hills
  10. Elkton
In case you’re wondering, Edgewood is the least ghetto city of all we measured.
Read on below to see where your hometown ranked and why.

This is a shame. Salisbury used to be #1 I thought.

yahooooooo ty mr mayor for giving me such a nice place to be proud of #2 on the GHETTO rating no wonder my property value dropped so much but my land taxes did not

Salisbury was a great place to grow up several decades ago but with the invasion of section 8 housing we now are a crime haven

if the city council keeps working like they are, we will be number 1 ghetto again. Being number 2 is unacceptable

Something I did pick up on , 5 of these cities are in P.G. County.

The decline of the city hit overdrive when they stopped out of town ppl who own property in sby fro voting here...

Hyattsville is actually a great place to live. I am really shocked by this rating. Walk the streets in the evening. Nice location. Good parish schools (don't know about the others).

you better not walk the streets in smallsbury at night or you will be in for a nice copter ride to b more

You haven't been to hyattsville lately

Salisbury is the 6th poorest city in Maryland. This Delmarva Peninsula city saw 40% of its kids or its elderly living in poverty every month.

Nice

I would like to say unbelievable but it's not. I live in a neighboring county and the few times I make it to Salisbury each year I can see, it's rapid deterioration.
I'm reminded of Bernie Sanders' recent tour of Baltimore in which he likened the city to a "Third World country." The second those words emerged from his mouth, he should have immediately taken a bow. It's thanks to the Bernie Sanders of this country and the rest of the democrats that the cities have reached this point of no return.

I'm sick of this poverty nonsense 2:14. Time to eliminate the politically correct language and begin to honestly and correctly refer to poverty as child abuse and neglect caused by the family breakdown. These irresponsible 'mothers' are fueling poverty by having babies who will only grow up with a life of struggle and hardship and that is child abuse. When you know you can provide both financially without the government's help and you still have a baby you are guilty of child abuse and neglect and are the worst kind of parent a child could ever have. Time to stop gilding the lily.

Hyattsville is El Salvador East.

Allowing people to keep having fatherless children on the tax payers dime has caused the deterioration of not only Salisbury but the country as a whole.

Ive worked in Edgewood and that is a dangerous place at night.

If you take the time to study the true make up of a few of the city council members you will see the worst is yet to come. So sad to see what was a model city not long ago go to such a mess today.

so sad from a 68 year old life long resident of Wicomico County. Salisbury used to be a gem. We had leaders with integrity and common sense. Leaders with forethought and vision. Leaders with morals and scruples. Do you understand what I'm talking about??

Email this to the idiots Ireton/day.

It's because this study is PURE CRAP. Click-bait. Honestly, these are the same type of statistics that will exclaim that Ocean City is the most dangerous place in the state. Well yeah of course it is; you have the crime of 300,000 people for 4 months, but a population of 7,000. Hyattsville? College Park. Salisbury? Well maybe a little Salisbury, but probably a lot of SU. Same with Baltimore and all the colleges there. Because we should all know that Cambridge (as a whole) is waaaay more ghetto than Baltimore (as a whole). I mean, shoot, there are still a large number of folks in Cambridge without power and water or even working roofs! At least the gummit covers that in bmore.

and all of you talking smack about smallsbury, it is because of YOU that this town is the way it is. don't think so? what have YOU done to make it better?

That doesn't reflex good on the leadership for either Salisbury or Wicomico County.

For a city of just 30,000, there were plenty of Tweets, which helped Salisbury move up the rankings:

“Welcome to Salisbury where everyone you meet is either a redneck or ghetto !!!”

This is a lie right here. This survey means nothing.

his article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don’t freak out.

Above is what the people who did this survey say about their own work. This is a bad joke. No Salisbury citizen should support this.

Salisbury and Cambridge are both a shell of their former selves. They used to be vibrant cities with manufacturing plants and plenty of jobs and low taxes. Now all there is left is empty warehouses and buildings and abandoned houses.
At least Cambridge is doing something with their downtown. They are trying hard revitalize it. Salisbury on the other hand isn't doing anything much with their downtown, but build low income slum housing where there could be new businesses and specialty shops. It's really sad to see what has become of two really great cities that are now run down slums!

The Western Shore in general have a low opinion for people on the Eastern Shore. It's the same way in State Government. Offices on the Western Shore and Baltimore always have events, but snub us here on the Shore.
This includes Retirement benefits meetings, Educational enrichment classes, and celebrations in general.

It's no secret that we are the bastard step children of the rest of the state. We would definitely be better off divorcing them completely.
Our core values and beliefs are totally different. We are Red and they are Blue. Oil and water don't mix!!!

Geographically we are different. I feel more aligned with Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Virginia than Annapolis and Baltimore!

Good grief. It must be my fault. My grandparents were from one of those cities. I was born in another. Went to school in a third. And now live in Salisbury. Must be following me around...
