SALISBURY SKATEPARK GRAND OPENING CEREMONY

Salisbury – Mayor Jake Day is pleased to announce that the grand opening ceremony for the Salisbury Skatepark will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the site – 921 South Park Drive.

Helmets are mandatory, so skaters bring your helmet and be prepared to have a great time! All skaters must also be appropriately registered. Skaters 18 years of age and older must complete and sign a Waiver and Release form and obtain a Salisbury Skatepark registration sticker. This sticker must be displayed prominently on your skating helmet in order to enter and skate in the park. All skaters under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Salisbury Community Development staff members will be on-site from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. following the grand opening ceremony to register skaters who have not yet completed the required Waiver and Release form.

Deborah Stam, Salisbury Community Development Director, stated “The Salisbury Skatepark Committee members and I have been working toward the realization of this goal for eight long years. It is so gratifying to finally see this dream become a reality. The Salisbury Skatepark will enhance the quality of life for our local residents by providing a new, positive outlet for the energy and exuberance of the community’s youth. I want to thank the Mayor and City Council members who have supported this project over the years, and all the many City staff members who assisted with the construction of this very important addition to our recreational amenities.”

“A lot of positive energy and hard work has been given to this project by so many people,” said Mayor Jake Day. “I’m delighted to see phase 1 complete. I offer my thanks to Debbie Stam for her steadfast dedication to the Skatepark, and I look forward to seeing the skaters enjoy a facility for which they’ve waited such a long time.”

Boring! What a waste of good tax money!

All twenty of them.

I guess the second time is the charm. We had a skate board park before, spent the money and then tore it down. Now we spend money again for the same thing we once had. Great use of tax payer money and great leadership. Salisbury once again looks stupid!

I give it a year.

I'm going to chime in here and say the following.

Many years ago I was one of a hand full of people who created what we called "Upscale Billiard Rooms". The stigma of a billiard room was one in which people believed were drug and alcohol filled environments.

Many of you believe skateboard parks are the same. While SOME of this might be true, we fought that very same image and won.

Can this skate park achieve the same results, absolutely. I had stated years ago that it must be managed properly and we can only hope that is the case here. It wasn't easy but just like the trolls that visit this site every day, we weed them out and their comments never see the light of day.

It's bad enough we rarely ever see kids out playing any more. This project could help turn that around and by all means, ANYONE disrespecting the RULES should be barred for at least a year. ANYONE selling or doing drugs should be banned for life. Let me say this as well. ANYONE with knowledge of such behavior that doesn't report it should be barred as well.

Skaters need to UNITE. This has been a very long road and each and every skater needs to follow through and protect that clean image.

Finally, the Salisbury Police Department needs to regularly patrol that area. Not just drive by's. They need to get OUT of their vehicle and politely interact with everyone there. This is a COMMUNITY owned property in a residential neighborhood.

Just my two cents.

I bet neighbors of the skate park are putting houses up for sale or have already done so. Sorry but history says will be taken over by thugs or thug want a be's, then it will be abandoned because this is not what they want, they want the streets. If by chance their are any good kids there I would be concerned for their safety.

Nothing pleases you people. The negativity in these comments, every day, is astounding. This skatepark is a great idea. It gives kids a chance to do something productive with their free time. I'm sorry it bothers you curmudgeons so much.

So, why are there already videos of people skating in the skate park, without helmets, of course? Can't wait for the first busted dome lawsuit.

This is great for the kids. Something positive for them to do and something they love! Gets them out of the house w/o being aimless.

joe,

i don't always agree with you, but thank you for speaking common sense!

Follow the skater's example. Raise funds, show community support, go through all the legal hoops and it can happen. The skaters worked on this for 8 years. They made it happen. Maybe you ATV riders could as well

Salisbury is not the same place it was when the first skate-park was built. I agree, it's bought and paid for, so let's be grateful for something. The committee worked hard to provide this fruit, for there to be a phase two, phase one must be tweaked and successful. I wish the best for skaters and future skaters. Merry Christmas

nothing wrong with a skatepark, my kid does that

but how this was done, what was done to those people living across, just plain wrong
