Q&A With Rick Meehan: ‘We’ve Positioned Ourselves Well In The Marketplace’

OCEAN CITY — There are few people with more good things to say about Ocean City than Mayor Rick Meehan. Of course, it’s part of the job description for Meehan to get people fired up about Maryland’s favorite vacation destination, but he has always quietly balanced his not so quiet optimism for and promotion of the resort with consistent and level-headed leadership.

While some may laud him for being Ocean City’s biggest cheerleader, many others feel a quiet security knowing that he is at the helm and leading the resort’s charge into the great unknown. Yet, by mostly all accounts, the summer of 2015 was a pretty strong one here in Ocean City. The weather was decent, the crowds were sizeable, and almost collectively, there were profitable cheers coming from the business community rather than frustrated jeers.

Meehan sat down with The Dispatch to talk about the year that was, and the year that lies ahead.

This man is light years ahead of every former Mayor the Eastern Shore has ever seen.

I had a one on one conversation with Rick last Saturday and he is a forward thinker. He understand the younger generations trend and is focusing one what some of what we call grey haired people might instantly reject.

Rick is open minded and a forward thinker. He also understands what Ocean City can and can't do, while encouraging businesses and growth in West Ocean City.

He is excited also about the Worcester County Council and their new way of thinking that includes encouraging growth and not discouraging it like past Council's.

Good to see others, (like the Dispatch) supporting Rick's wisdom and leadership.

What ocean city doesn't get is its a giant rip off.....I lived many years on the shore and 2 years ago left for swfl. As a collier county resident I don't pay to park anywere,we have several museums free to the public....after paying for many years to get into car shows in oc it's nice to walk into shows free here....we have a multi level parking garage...free to park for everyone....seeing the trend....the money I don't have to spend parking or entering things allows me more money to spend on food ect.....oc is an overpriced....run down rip off.....Its the truth case closed.

2:35, I'm sure Ocean City will miss you, not.

idk more money to spend on food--that's a coherently valid argument there

i don't mess with horseshoe crabs neither

they're definitley lots of goofs in Ocean City too, and if I see sum near me--straight a-salt charges. Idk why the city would let people set up a tent-city camp in Sunset Park that'll mess property values up and attract more roaches--they're dumb cuz it's prolly nicer there than lots of the overpriced accomodations

good for making bank off the boozehounds though

Joe sounds more like a bornhere than the comehere that he is. Get bent much when someone points out that everything is not what you say it is. We stopped going to OC 10+years ago. Not because of costs but the crowds of people we did not even want to be in proximity of let alone rub shoulders with on the beach/boardwalk or restaurants.
