FROM THE QA COUNTY BOE

FROM QA COUNTY BOE::

KIHS Event 12/8/2015

This message will be sent to KIHS students and parents:

Kent Island High School Parents and Students,

As I mentioned in the email sent earlier to our parents, at approximately 12:26PM this afternoon, the main campus was evacuated due to a potentially threatening message found within the school. I felt it was in our best interest to evacuate the building, and notify the Sheriff’s department of the potential threat.

We followed our emergency procedures and made necessary adjustments to those procedures in order to dismiss at our regular times.

This afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department, in addition to other agencies, conducted a thorough search of our building and now consider it safe to access. The building will continue to be closed throughout this evening, though will reopen tomorrow as normal.

The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s office is actively investigating and pursuing information already received regarding this incident. You are encouraged to call the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s office 410-758-0770, Kent Island High School Administration, or utilize our Text-a-Tip Line, by texting, KENTISLANDHS to 68398 if you have any information that may help in this investigation.

Disrupting school activities is a serious offense and will result in significant consequences by the Sheriff’s Office and Queen Anne’s County public schools.

Students, you were perfect. I couldn’t have asked you to do anything more. I thank you very much for your cooperation.

Parents, I appreciate your patience, your trust, and your flexibility during this situation and certainly during dismissal. I thank you very much.

John R. Schrecongost
