An 18-year-old from Maryland stole his father’s car and picked up a 16-year-old girl in Ohio after the two planned to run away together, Pittsburgh police said.
But they didn’t get far before police tracked them down at a Pittsburgh motel Tuesday evening, charged the 18-year-old with several crimes and returned the girl to her guardians.
Police said Mark Thompkins met the girl through an online app about a year ago when she was 15. The girl’s grandparents forbade her from having any contact with Mr. Thompkins at the time, according to a criminal complaint, but the two continued to correspond anyway.
That led to Tuesday morning, when Mr. Thompkins drove his father’s vehicle — which had been reported stolen from his home in Preston, Md. — to Steubenville, Ohio, to pick up the girl at her grandparents’ home about 7:45 a.m., police said. The girl, who was not identified, later told police that the two “planned to meet and leave Ohio,” the complaint said.

eightTEEN
He is a teen and an adult, which is why he is being charged as he is.
Young, stupid, dangerous love?
I know I shouldn't make light of this, but he took her to the hotel Tom cruise's character in Jack Reacher was staying before the big car chase
Why is it always a "Teen"when the guy is white, and "Man" in the news when black?
He's 18, she's 16, and she left under her own will. How is that kidnapping? That's a runaway at most. Unless there was some kind of civil order in place, by Maryland law, he hasn't committed any crime.
Steubenville is at where OH, WV and PA meet. It is generally referred to as Stupidville in those parts.
Get over yourself!
The point is someone from here with bad morals, and I can understand her parents being upset, why didn't his parents know what was going on, and report not only the theft of their vehicle but that there son had left and taken it?
