(Salisbury, MD) – Environmental Health Officials in Wicomico County are reminding residents to stay away from feral cats after a fox tested positive for rabies in the Boundary Street area of Salisbury. The fox was known to share common food sources with the feral cats in the area. Feral cats pose a serious public health threat through the spread diseases such as Rabies, Cryptosporidiosis, Giardiasis, Toxoplasmosis, Bartonellosis (cat scratch fever) and Salmonellosis. These diseases are known to cause serious illness and in some cases, if left untreated, are fatal. Residents are urged to refrain from feeding feral cats and to remove all food sources in the area. If anyone or their pets came into contact with this fox, please contact the Wicomico County Health Department at 410-546-4446.

People should also keep their indoor/outdoor cats inside for now!
Freaking scare tactics. For the 100's of cats we have fed, fostered and found homes for, we have never had a problem. I am not into watching an animal stare to death. Common sense works wonders. BS.
The fox was going to get rabies either way, the fox is going to potentially pass it on either way. Starving cats to death won't stop the fox from getting rabies and or passing it on.
