'The Kite Runner' book and movie addressed this. They use twisted excuses to justify these practices. Very sad.
A few years ago there was some internet chatter regarding a PBS production exposing the Islamic cultural behavior called Bacha "Bazi" (Dancing Boys) They submitted in the documentary that this sort of abuse is a form of fund raising for schools all over the Islamic World.
Even in Pakistan where Obama spent several of his formative years Elementary aged Boys are offered to the wealthy on a special night.
