The Maryland Heroin and Opioid Emergency Task Force, formed last year to study and report on the growing epidemic of the dangerous narcotic across the state, last week delivered its interim report to the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The report, which was borne out of a series of task force meetings all over the state during the summer months, outlines Maryland’s strategies for dealing with the epidemic going forward, including a series of resource allocations to be implemented in the short term.
Among the resource allocations spelled out in the interim report is a $124,635 grant to the Ocean City Police Department paid through the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention to fund License Plate Reader (LPR) technology. License Plate Reader technology is being increasingly utilized by law enforcement agencies all over the country for a variety of uses.

10 years ago, they would have justified the expense as "a tool against terrorism".
60 years ago, it would have been "a tool against communism".
Always room in the budget for the surveillance state.
How does a tag reader tell cops heroin s in a car? It can't! No way it can! Does it scan the inside of a car? No it says whos been where. That's all! Next time a person gets killed there... The perp may get into a white truck. No tag witnessed. But this system is sure to guarantee that everyone with a white truck who visited ocean city will be getting a visit or phone call from a defective.
I'm wondering the same thing 1:17. What I'm thinking is they are going to program in the tag numbers of known heroin dealers and this will let them know when the dealer is in town so they can do surveillance or whatever.
I don't think the public understands how tag readers work.
What they do is, a suspect's tag number is programmed into the reader and if that tag goes by the reader the PD is alerted.
This is how they located the shooter who shot the 2 reporters down in VA a few weeks ago. Officers whose vehicles were equipped with the readers programmed the number in and sure enough one picked it up in Fauquier Co VA and the officer knew he was close and was able to identify the car and started following.
Good bc i dont want criminals driving on my paid roads.
Well maybe they can program. In the license of. All the white trash so they can run them outta town.
Add democrats to the list too. They should all be locked up for stupidity
No. Anyone who is on vacation and maybe forgot to renew their tags and are expired by a day or three will be yanked off the road and fined! Got a ticket you forgot? Expect to be pulled over and probably arrested. And the thing is its a simple mistake. You did nothing wrong but your tag was ran away. This is illegal. Your tag is not to be ran unless there is probable cause.
Here we go..... First arrest made from them..... Stolen vehicle hit with two guess whos in possession. Idc how they spin it. It is wrong.
Those guys use rental cars anyway. They will drive right by while the vacationers with an unpaid ticket will have their arse handed to them.

This is not possible. LPR's don't have the capability. Now the government would love for people to think they do so people keep on paying the fees associated with renewing tags.
Even the LPR's that monitor the EZ passes at tolls that are positioned just a few feet away from the vehicle miss from time to time.
