For anyone planning to attend the string of motor-centric events that debut next month, your parking options may be limited, and possibly more expensive.
With the city set to pass a group of ordinances meant to reign in some of the events’ adverse impacts, including a ban on trailer parking on public streets and lots, discussion is already under way as to exactly where to put said trailers, which transport show cars and motorcycles to the resort.
This week, the City Council already broached the idea of renting parts of the city-owned lots at 100th Street, and at the West Ocean City Park-and-Ride, to the event organizers so that participants can store trailers.
“I think we should charge the promoter and let him pass that cost on [to participants] if he sees fit,” said Councilman and Police Commission Chair Doug Cymek. “The discussion has been that the lot would be segregated to allow ... the promoter to decide who would be allowed to park there. As long as we had our rental fee, deciding who could park there would be his decision.”

Let's milk that golden goose for all it's worth! (Mixed metaphor intended).
This should be interesting. None of the hotels south of 33rd st where a lot of the cruisers have stayed in the past have room in their parking lots to house the trailers. So now attendees will need to stay in condos in the north that have plenty of parking. This will be a boon to absentee condo owners and a loss for the hotels and a lot of noise for those who live year round in their condos. Ought to make for some interesting weekends in September and October. OC government screws it up again.
What's going on with OC? First they lost the DEW Tour as a result of pinching pennies with Pepsi. Next, the Tall Ships quietly failed to dock there. With Cruizen and Bike Week being the biggest boon to OC businesses, the Council wants to sell them out for a couple of bucks in new fee revenue? The best thing that will ever happen to this town is for the ACLU to challenge their charter so that ALL property owners have a say in the government there.
The car shows and Cruisers bring major revenue into Ocean City.
"The ban on trailer parking is part of a larger initiative by city officials to control the proliferation of rowdy behavior..."
Really? Exactly how? By discouraging everybody from attending? Car trailers create rowdy behavior? No, alcohol + assh0les = rowdy behavior.
"The behavior issue generally results not from show participants themselves, but from the throngs of spectators who line Coastal Highway and bring their own, non-show vehicles to do burnouts..."
If you're among the throngs of spectators...you are most certainly NOT doing burnouts or anything else in your car. You can't have it both ways.
