Gang violence made July bloodiest month in jails

Shanks a lot, Rikers.

A surge in gang violence in the city jails turned July into the bloodiest month behind bars in at least 15 years.

Records obtained by the Daily News show there were 21 slashings and one stabbing in July. At least 16 of the incidents — leaving combatants with sliced faces, shanked backs and bloody ears — involved members of the Bloods, Crips or Latin Kings.

The violence erupted inside jail cells, showers and cafeterias. In one clash, eight gangbangers slashed an inmate about 11:30 a.m. on July 1 during a religious service in the main gym at the George R. Vierno Center, the internal records show.

“It’s pure savagery,” said Ed Gavin, a retired deputy warden.

If it was violence between the gang members in prison - that's where the head Baltimoron's advice would be appropriate - let them riot.....they would only eliminate the dregs of society.....

As long as we treat criminals like victims it will get worse. Prison needs to be hell these people made a choice they should be worked hard all day and fed little.

Heil, comrade. Let's keep them in solitary too. Beat them at the smallest provocation. Subject their visitors to indignities so they won't want to come visit them. Label them for life. Then release them back into society and expect them now to be 'normal'.

Anyone can make a mistake. The ones with enough money to have a good lawyer, pay off judges and prosecutors rarely have to pay for them.

Your suggestion has been the order of the day in prisons for over a hundred years. It does NOT work.
