BERLIN – Ocean Pines residents want more information on smart meters before they see the electronic devices installed outside their homes.
Several homeowners shared their worries regarding smart meters with the Ocean Pines Association’s elected officials during a board meeting last week. Concerns ranged from the health risks of the meters to the amount of control they had to give Choptank Electric, the community’s electric provider.
“I’m not saying I’m against technology,” resident Pamela Dameron said. “I just want more information. We don’t want this to be the new asbestos.”
Dameron said Pines residents hadn’t been provided enough information on smart meters, which Choptank plans to install in the community this summer. She said the meters would be emitting radio waves like cell phones did and could create health problems.

This was a backlash I wish would have been stomped out a long long time ago.
these are True concerns many of us have. we really don't want to look back and see this was a huge mistake and hoax on the citizens. if you or others don't care, so be it, but don't dismiss those who do care.
They will charge you $17 per month if you don't get the new meter. You are screwed either way.
Check. out smart meters and fires with PECO of Pennsylvania
Money is stolen from me every month by Delmarva Power because I refused to let then install the big brother smart meter.
These 'smart meters' are just that. I've heard that these machines will be able to tell what brand TV you've got, the type of washer & dryer you're using, your refrigerator, freezer and range's manufacturer. It'll be able to access your computers and anything else electrical [alarm systems, etc.] in your house. And, to top it off REA/Choptank will be selling that info to someone, too. Maybe even be required to give it to Obama and his global corporate interests.
If I've got to, I'm payin' to stay private.
