An 18-year-old African American was arrested for the murder and is being charged as an adult for murdering a veteran of the actions in Afghanistan who had a three-year-old daughter.
Erico Montalvo, of 10 Pocasset Ave., wore no expression as he was led handcuffed into District Court early Friday morning to face the charges. The timing, coincidentally, was just before the funeral Mass for 26-year-old Colby Mendonca of Pawtucket.
Mendonca and his friend, Russell Gleason, 25, were in the parking lot behind the Walgreens at 533 Elmwood Ave. just before 2 a.m. when they got into an argument with strangers, according to police. The argument became a fight that left Gleason badly injured and Mendonca dead.
Special Assistant Attorney General Meg McDonough told Magistrate Joseph Ippolito that Montalvo admitted to Providence investigators that he’d been at the scene and had stabbed both men.
Montalvo was charged with murder and assault with a dangerous weapon, both felonies. No plea was entered, and the magistrate ordered Montalvo held without bail, pending a hearing on July 28.

Death penalty in all states!
I don't think a lot of whites would ever want Sharpton speaking for them on their behalf no matter the circumstances.
Whites have more class than that. They also possess more morals.
If Al Sharpton were to die today Obama would order all flags at half staff. But he didn't order them to half staff for the murder of the five soldiers murdered by the muslim terrorist last week.
Our partially black president tells us black lives matter.
Please 12:37 do not say "partially black" president. Blacks can claim him 100 percent. They deserve him esp after all this we are seeing with them killing each other off like crazy in every single inner city in this country. Their morals are right in line with Obama's.
I call for an immediate ban on fried chicken, grape soda, and moon pies. Also for the president to send 29 million to the victim's family. I'm sure the check is in the mail for white victim's too....
