KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) — Westboro Baptist Church, infamous for its anti-gay protests and funeral picketing, is planning a protest outside a Kill Devil Hills high school.
Kill Devil Hills police confirmed an official for the Topeka, Kansas church sent a letter Tuesday to Chief Gary Britt. Shirley Phelps-Roper wrote to inform him of the group’s intentions and ask about any permits needed for the demonstration.
The half-hour protest is planned for Monday, June 1, as students arrive at First Flight High School in the morning.
In the letter, Phelps-Roper said the demonstration would be about “the judgement of God with respect to the dangers of promoting homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and the filthy manner of life & idol worshiping of this nation.”
