The new bar/restaurant called "Social" has already had their liquor license suspended after someone took a martini glass and broke it, then sliced someone's neck almost killing them. We're told it was a life threatening injury.
This establishment has a particular licence in which they must serve 51% food and 49% alcohol. After reopening under this new name they now have less tables to serve food to customers and could be setting themselves up for regular inspections by the Liquor Board.
The Ireton Administration has kept this incident quiet and I'm checking on the Salisbury Police Department calls for service to see just how we missed it when it happened.
Look, bars have always had issues but when you enter a business that has a reputation in which someone could be killed, that's a problem. Insiders tell us that no one saw anything, typical. In the mean time someone almost got killed and the Administration and Media have kept this very quiet.
It's a shame that THIS is the kind of reputation the Salisbury Downtown Bars are going to get. Bar owners are going to have to get a handle on this stuff immediately or I can assure you, the entire Downtown Bar atmosphere will come to an immediate end.
Let me close with this. When I ran for Mayor, I proposed encouraging a weekend Downtown Bar Experience. HOWEVER, my proposal was the CLOSE OFF the Plaza on Friday and Saturday nights and have it secured by Salisbury Police Officers checking ID's and a small cover charge to afford these services. Ireton needs to get a handle on the lack of protection for innocent people encouraged to come Downtown all over his Facebook page.

I only visit downtown for events like 3th Friday, because it just doesn't feel safe any other time.
We absolutely DO NOT go downtown. Once upon a time lunch or dinner woth friends at Market Street or maybe the BBQ place, but now it's just too sketchy. Thanks to the low income housing and all the social programs that keep the democrat voting slave class close, the downtown area is DONE.
Where is this bar? Was it previously another bar/restaurant?
Greater Salisbury during daylight sometimes.Nowhere in Salisbury after dark. Downtown never.
Yes Joe, as usual you are right & everybody else is wrong! How does it feel to be perfect? Yea, right.
Where is this bar? Was it previously another bar/restaurant?
On the corner of division and Main on the plaza side. It was formerly for years a jewelry store. I don't remember the name but you would recognize it.
No Dryden's Camera Center.
It was Echelon before Social.
Started to go to a well known jewelry store down town to select a anniversary gift a month ago but changed my mind at the last min. Went to a outside city jeweler and felt a lot more comfortable. I'm done with downtown.
i was on the plaza last night and it looked like there was a little "private party" going on in there.
From the desciption it sounds like the old White's Jewelers.
Theres alot of things being "missed". Like the $3000.00 in vandalism done to vehicles by black youths in broad daylight. Saw it happen, but couldn't identify them, they all look alike.
The police have no control over this city.
Never heard of "Social". It can't be too popular.
Ive never really felt uncomfortab le downtown except this particular place ive been there once and never saw myself going back. Its this place, not all of downtown but the reasoning behind hiding it is very suspicious and questionable
Former named echelon. It had a sign that said under new management.
The police need to raid that place with there "private" Party last night?
And your a fool to think your any safer.
Is there a new owner of this "Social"? Echelon wasn't even open long...since approximately Sept 2014, correct?
For the record... The incident with the martini glass happened while it was under previous management and named Echelon. And it happened over two months ago.
lol downtown isn't even bad. a little melodramatic don't you think..? "downtown is done" yeah okay. you guys are crazy.
7:44, I don't care when it happened. Anyone with a brain realizes it had to take some time before the Liquor Board could call them out on this matter, hold a meeting and make a formal decision to pull their license.
As for under new management, REALLY? As far as I'm concerned the owner/owners got spanked HARD because as I have experience as a former bar owner, it takes serious matters to have a Board pull your license.
Normally there's warnings letting owners know the Board is serious. This was NOT the only reason the license was pulled.
I have been down there at night where vehicles were parked on the sidewalks, including limos. Don't even try to say that was from bands loading and unloading, that was not the case.
I have to wonder just how proud John Robinson is referencing all of this as he tells everyone in town he is now a part owner of this business.
Joe, I am not sure what reason you had for not posting my comment from around 6:58pm, I will admit that it was lengthy but it did address all of your concerns sans any vulgarity or malice, let me try making this one a bit more brief...
The limo that you are referring to was located there on 18 April 2015 and arrived at approximately 1945 hours and remained there throughout the night, it was never ever parked ON the sidewalk; it was however parked adjacent to the sidewalk in 3 clearly delineated parking spaces, I have pictures proving this and will gladly e-mail them to you if you'd like...
As for John Robinson, he is not affiliated with nor does he have any interest whatsoever in this establishment, except to ride by it slowly every night it is open (and possibly when it is not) and gawk at the patrons... Additionally, any interest that he MAY have had in this establishment was NEVER formal and you can confirm that on all the public business documents... Personally, I don't know anyone who would WANT any involvement in business from him
Again, no vulgarity or malice so that hopefully your readers can see a little bit more of both sides of this
I would also like to point out that over the past 3 weeks (this past weekend obviously doesn't count as they were not open) under which the signage has changed and the owner has taken new measures to protect his patrons (with new security cameras as well as additional security and enforced policies) that "Social @ Echelon" has not had a single incident that involved the police however many other downtown establishments have (including one on the night of 18 April 2015 that involved more than 9 Salisbury City Police Cars and that closed a portion of main street for 45 minutes at Mojo's)
8:23, You are making statements representing this business without providing a name. There are times when comments come in that are phony people trying to twist information.
You do the same in this comment.
As for the Limo, yes, there was one parked on the street but another vehicle parked on the sidewalk next to the front door but on the Plaza side. I actually have a picture of it.
As for Robinson, I have run into SEVERAL people who swear John has stated he is a partner there. Now, would I believe you over John, absolutely.
Hahaha, I completely understand your concerns and would like to note that I am not affiliated with the business, but I am friends with the owner and a regular patron... All of my knowledge comes from having been there and seen all of this first hand... I have forwarded the post to the owner in case he would like to make a direct statement regarding all of this himself, but I can't be sure he will...
You are correct about the vehicle parked on the plaza side, I believe it was the DJ, but I can't be sure nor do I recall how long it was there, but you are right, it was wrong either way.
I am sure John is running all over town saying all sorts of things, as he usually does... reminds me of a squawking bird in fact, but as you stated, he is often less than honest...
Also, I am an avid reader of your blog, thanks for sticking up for Salisbury ;) (Also, I know I can't prove it, but not trying to twist information, the people of Salisbury do deserve better than that, even if they don't often get it)
I love downtown. It is so nice to be able to walk between bars and restaurants. You can always find some music to suit your tastes on the weekend. I have never felt unsafe. I am also smart enough to go home before the bars close at 2.
There is no new owner, and it still operates under Echelon. Putting Social on the doors and windows was just a business decision by the owner. There is no new management either, this was just another business ploy.
8:57 Thanks for endorsement Jimbo!
Too bad they were at the last 3rd Friday handing out fliers for "Social." It is the SAME owners and management as Echelon. They even told me that when I asked.
NO! The previous 3rd Friday in April, there were people handing out flyers for "Social," I asked it it was a new owner or management and was told "NO." Downtown is getting MUCH better with other places though, there are MANY other places popping up that are wonderful and much needed in this town. Do not let one place ruin everything!
