Hey Worcester County Residents, Wondering Why The County Needs To Raise Taxes?

Well, you know, they really need to extend the overhang on the Visitors Center because it's a priority. Hence a 22% tax increase for things like this and sidewalks to nowhere.

New libraries when the people that actually read books are switching to E-books. Performing Arts additions to the Convention Center when there are private venues that book better acts. Arts Council buildings to satisfy a few influential snobs. New jails to house a bunch of drug users who will never go to prison. A wasted dollar here a wasted dollar there no big deal it's all quality of life. Me my quality of life begins with me keeping my own money to do with as I please.

Isn't it to give the teachers a pay raise?

Teachers should get a raise.. So should wicomico teachers.
What would happen to wicomico county if teachers worked to rule.... You dont understand the extra hours they out in. The schools would not function and very little would get done

No teacher "raises" are being allocated by the Commissioners. Nor are they allocating money to restore the years of step increases they have not been funding.

I voted for one of the conservatives on the County Commissioners thinking he would not raise taxes and look what he and the others did! They are funding pet projects at the expense of the tax payer!

The teacher pay raise is a red herring, straw man and just plain BS. There is much more involved with the teacher's compensation package other than the paycheck. The value of their fringe benefits, especially the health insurance component, is astronomical. Yes, the money portion may or may not be mediocre, but the value of the total package is way above what most people imagine.

Part of the reason you are seeing tax increases is because the State government which previously funded teacher pensions shifted the part of the cost to the counties a couple of years ago.

There is a very simple solution to the teacher complex question. If you don't like or enjoy what you are doing, you have the education supposedly behind you, go find another job endeavor. If you like what you do,then shut up the whining and be extremely GRATEFUL you have a job with benefits and that you aren't being fired for due cause.
All these teachers went into this profession knowing what was expected of them, now when money is hard to come by they are crying because they haven't gotten more money. A great many people haven't received step increases in years you are not alone. The difference is professional working people realize the economics of the situation where the teachers are so used to crying, stomping their feet, and their union threatening councils to get their way that now the money is dried up for now so get over yourselves or get out of the profession. Let others that want to do the job take over. It is time to clean house and get the dead wood out of the classrooms. Since all they care about is their checks, find employment elsewhere. As a taxpayer, I'm sick to death of listening to you all.
