(CNSNews) – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that voting will take place this week on the Senate Bill 178, the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015, before President Barack Obama’s nominee for attorney general, Loretta Lynch, will be considered.
“This needs to stop,” McConnell said of Democrats blocking the bill. “This ridiculous fight over language that they’ve already voted for frequently in the past really needs to stop so we can move forward with this very important human trafficking bill.
“This is no minor issue, and once we do that, then we’ll move on to consider the president’s nominee for Attorney General,” McConnell said.
Obama nominated Lynch, who is currently the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, to replace outgoing AG Eric Holder.
The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 (S.178) prohibits funds designated for helping victims of trafficking to be used for abortion except under certain circumstances.
“The bill prohibits the use of amounts from the Fund for any abortion or for health benefits coverage that includes coverage of abortion, except where the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest or the woman's life is in danger unless an abortion is performed, and requires the transfer of all non-obligated balances in the Fund to the Crime Victims Fund established under the Victims of Crime Act of 1984,” the bill’s text states.

The bill would expand the Hyde Amendment to apply to non-taxpayer funds.
It's one thing for the government to control how taxpayer dollars are spent; it is entirely different to try and control the expenditure of private funds.
Quit trying to control womens' health through unrelated legislation.

Sorry, attaching the abortion debate to this makes the bill not about helping the victims of trafficking. So, now you gonna make the victim prove she wasn't raped? Really?
It's stuff like this that make Independents hold their noses and vote for Democrats, seriously.
7:22, Did you even bother to read the post or the bill? It is about getting Democrats to vote on, commit to and restate already existing federal policy to insure that federal money will not be wasted by some President using an Executive Order to circumvent the law of the land.
You imply you are an independent but you obviously are a Democrat because you can't think independently. Either that or you are a baby killer.
If the Democrats weren't so beholding to the pro choice abortion lobby then they shouldn't have any problem voting on this bill and clearing the way for a vote on the Attorney General.
But of course a lot of the Democrats get significant money from abortion groups and maybe a lot of the Dems don't want BO's choice for AG.
