Citizens defy Border Patrol by staying silent with video cameras

Protest against Border Patrol utilizes internet videos to spread awareness

This is a frame grab of a video recorded by people dealing with Border Patrol upon entering the U.S. They say that the man was forcibly removed from his vehicle after refusing to answer questions.

No drugs or would-be immigrants were hidden in the sedan that rolled up to a Border Patrol checkpoint on a Southern California highway last week, but within 90 seconds the driver was handcuffed.

His 4-year-old boy was crying. And a video camera mounted on the car's dashboard captured the moment. The motorist had said he was an American but told the agent he did not have to say where he was going, would not consent to a search of his trunk and would not move his car.

"You brought this on yourself, buddy," an agent says as he is led away.

Another traveler came through a similar checkpoint in El Paso this month, also with a video camera rolling.

He, too, challenged the agent, saying he would not answer questions. After a few seconds he was curtly told, "Get out of here."

If they did their job at the border they wouldn't need these checkpoints. I can remember walking across the bridge between El Paso and Juarez watching people on rafts being pulled across the Rio Grande. Then getting off on the US side and climbing through a hole that was cut in the fence. All of this was within eye sight of the border checkpoint on the El Paso side. They have never been serious about stopping illegals or drugs, so I can see why Americans are no longer taking these absurd checkpoints seriously.

How much power can border patrol agents have when Obama, Holder and the rest of the Democratic Liberals refuse to follow the immigration laws that are currently on the books? Answer .....NONE!

Thought you like to know said...

They have a couple Deputies that act like this and are part of the Court System serving paperwork...

They infringe on Constitutional rights frequently and one looks like "Barney Rubble" on the Flintstones.

Give the cops a little power and they think they can trample all over our rights, and they wonder why people want to kill them?

My experience crossing the border LEGALLY between El Paso and Juarez occurred while I was in the Air Force stationed in New Mexico and George HW Bush was President.

That checkpoint outside of Las Cruces did nothing then and does nothing now to stem the tide of illegal people or drugs. It is simply a nuisance for American citizens that travel on that interstate.

There's not one hypocritical statement made fool! And I got news for you. If our country had its forces on our borders minding our real true interest this wouldn't be an issue. All you want to do is bark. Go lay down Fido!

You are a genius.

"There's not one hypocritical statement made fool!"

That is simply brilliant.

I think the blubber blogger could use you as his immigration enforcement adviser when he runs for office.

Your sarcasim eludes me. 5:33 is spot on. We have Isis due to us being over seas . countless lives and money spent protecting others while we allow god knows who to come across our borders. Its about time we close our borders and being our troops home to do it.

There needs to be a real checkpoint, where everyone must provide valid identification to enter the country. But until the obvious holes in the border are sealed off, it's a joke and merely a nuisance. Because anyone illegal, isn't coming through the checkpoint to begin with; they are hopping the border and bypassing any checks and screening.

This guy should have provided his proof of American citizenship, without arguing about it. There's so many Mexicans smuggled in, by hiding in the back of a vehicle, that it's reasonable to check.

That said, I don't believe this de facto "probable cause" should be permitted to extend to a thorough vehicle search to look for drugs, without more specific probable cause. And once the border patrol agent knew he was an American citizen, he had no business asking him where he was going or further questions about his planned activities. Nor should he have answered them.
