NYC public schools to close on 2 Muslim holidays

New York public schools will add two Muslim holidays to their vacation calendars, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday, a promise he made during his election campaign.

The policy change was hailed by Islamic leaders in New York City.

Under the new policy, the city's 1.1 million-pupil public school system will close on Sept. 24 for Eid al-Adha, which is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.

The holiday of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, will be observed during summer school in 2016.

If your going to do it for Christians then you have to do it for other faiths too. That is the freedom of religion. Not just freedom for Christian religion.

this sets a bad precedent. Next we will be closing for Spanish holidays as there are more Spanish people in the US than Muslims.

"If your going to do it for Christians then you have to do it for other faiths too."

Actually, they go to great lengths to avoid associating vacations with Christian holidays. However, these Muslim holidays are blatantly about the religious observance. Your statement is not accurate.
