Remodeling the old station would have cost the taxpayers $2,000,000.00. Instead, (in typical liberal form) they are buying additional property and building a SMALLER station for more than $4,000,000.00.
Oh, get this Ladies & Gentlemen. Guess who the General Contractor is for this job? None other than former/retired Volunteer Chief Bill Gordy. Can you say Good Ol' Boys!
Here's one better. They can furlough Firefighters for TWO YEARS but now they have enough money to build a new station. Pretty cool when you RAISE taxes every year under Ireton and they BLOW IT on a newer, smaller station.
It was YOUR election to lose and I'm so glad I no longer own property in the City.

Joe have you aired your and your readers complaints to the proper authorities? The officials need to explain their decisions, but in order to do that the public has to make their opinions known - in person or by phone call. Writing and talking about it, not at Council meetings, gets no where.

Gordo is not the GC, he is a consultant. Supposedly not getting paid any money. Nobody wants this waste of money station. This would fund the twelve safer for five or more years.
Who did the property belong to in the past?

Gordo Should not have anything to do with it. Consultant? WTF!! He is not a contractor or a consultant. Jim Ireton is a dirt bag for inviting him back. He paid Jeff Simpson to get rid of Gordo and now he has this new found manlove for Gordo. Makes me sick to see this. Again Jim Ireton has lied to the people and jumped in bed with his enemies. Now Bill Gordy, Rick Hoppes and Tom Stevenson. His enemies who were calling him fag and even released the information about Jim Ireton's arrest on the beach in Rehoboth Beach. Got busted using SFD email. This all proves that Jim Ireton has a mental illness.
No one was in the audience except employees from the FD and City who were told to be there. There were a few politicians there that were only there to get recognized because it is an election season. Jim Mathias and his 50 yard signs would not have been there otherwise. Hardly any volunteers were there. Jim makes sure that employees were going to be their to makes sure it looks like a crowd is there wanting to be there to make him look good. No ordinary citizens were there. The way Conway was screwed by Gordo, Hoppes and David See I am surprised he was there. Then again it is an election year and he is running scared. He needs those votes thanks to Carl Anderton.

New Station #2 Ground Breaking
What a disgusting disgrace that Mayor has become. There is nothing wrong with the old fire station. The Morris family will take it back and the city will pay to demolish it. Then now we will have what maybe 4 homes that will be taken off the tax rolls which results in a decrease in revenue. Four homes taken off the tax rolls and was this included in the cost of building the new station #2? The annual taxes and water bills which generated revenue. Was this calculated in the loss of revenue for the city? Stupid is as stupid does. The spot old Station #2 was on will now have little to no value on the tax rolls. What a bunch of idiots when they got estimates to totally renovate the old station for $2 Million and now we will be spending over $5 million for a new fire station. That is not to mention the cost of repaving the entire streets around them which includes Naylor and Brown Streets. Came out of the mayors mouth today. That will cost a fortune and that price is not included in the total cost of the new fire station.
If the building was renovated it still would get a new plaque with Ireton's name on it. There is a plaque on the wall from the last addition to St. 2. so the name on the plaque doesn't cut it. Jim Ireton is all about spending money.
Rick Hoppes was an enemy of Jim Ireton and he and Bill Gordy openly supported Gary Comagees
using city and fire department resources to fight Jim Ireton's campaign for mayor when he was first elected. Jim Ireton jilted Rick Hoppes several times and then changed his mind nearly 2 years later after jumping in bed with most of his enemies.
Jake Day is a follower and not a leader. He is another major disappointment who just doesn't get it.
Salisbury Fire Departments history will be destroyed again. Their will be no original fire stations in this city because your mayor gave them away. Not once, but twice.
Jim Ireton is ruining the history of the City of Salisbury and Jake Day is doing the same thing. How is that done you say. Demolishing old city buildings and building new. Has nothing to do with the safety of the paid firemen. The downtown area is being promoted as all new and nothing of historic value. That is why the headquarters is being renovated and modernizes with a new look. They want all of downtown with a new eclectic feel and look. Guess where that comes from? It comes from a Gay Mayor and the Gay Community because history is something they despise. They have a new modern and eclectic taste. Look at the blue prints for downtown. I really don't think anyone will be buying into that except Jake Day and he is self promoting himself as the big leader with big ideas on the City Council.

Was anyone from the County Council invited to the open house? Does anyone know that question? They weren't in the audience and out of one county executive and 7 county council members I am sure at least one would have been in attendance. After all the county gives the Salisbury Fire Department millions of dollars a year in funding. As a county resident this concerns me that none of our County Council Reps were there and the Council funds them millions. But they invited Norman Conway and Jim Mathias who contribute absolutely nothing to the Salisbury Fire Department. Let me repeat this again Jim Ireton and Rick Hoppes invited Norman Conway and Jim Mathias to this event so that they can be promoting their campaigns. Shame on Jim Ireton and Rick Hoppes for this insult. They can justify Norman Conway being invited as a previous member of Station 2, but Jim Mathias is not a member.
It is my understanding that only a select few volunteers or retirees were invited. Gary Comagees and David See got engraved invitations, but not many others did. What makes Gary Comagees and David See special?
The ground may be broken, but hopefully we get a new council in the very next and upcoming election to eradicate the cancer that has infiltrated this city.
I think Jeff Simpson was a better fire chief and Barrie Tilghman was a better mayor. Now that is saying something.
I have made it a ritual to see the daily calls for the Salisbury fire dept..
I would be logical to be eliminating some of these firehouses rather than getting new ones.
Of course thinking logical is very difficult for the people who run the city.

You an average of 1 fire every 60 days and it's a 50% chance of false alarm , get real . The other is just a cigar in the grass .
I just cannot understand th mindset of ppl in power and control to just keeping spending in these times.I kinda feel sorry for the old people of salisbury who worked when the good jobs were here raised a family here and bought and paid for a home and now are scared to even leave at night or even in the day for food and doctors and medicine but we can build new fire stations every whip stitch.Also the money these paid f/f and emts get.I know they have life saving jobs but get paid there big money for that time not full money for loaf or gym time. Two different hourly rates.Last but not least please go get you food at breakfast lunch or dinner in your expensive personal vehicles own your wage earned gasoline not in a taxpayer vehicle and on there fuel.

Why was Gary Comagys there? Good question. I heard he hated the paid firemen and when he was a volunteer at Station #2 he bailed out on them and went to be a volunteer at Station #16. That was right up his alley because he was never a firefighter and the paid guys at Station #16 don't want to let the volunteers take any calls. They are always mean to them and run them off. It's just a social club for a few volunteers.
